How Barack Obama Created an Election-Winning Issue (Vanity)
Free Republic | Feb 15, 2012 | By Lazamataz

On January 7th, at the Republican debate, George Stephanopoulos embarked on a sudden, unexpected, and bizarre series of questions about contraception and birth control. Most of the political pundits who watched this, were somewhat puzzled at the virtual harangue that Stephanopoulos went on, asking candidate after candidate to pin down their views -- even though birth control issues were decidedly not in the forefront.

Then, President Obama and his brain trust picked a fight with the Catholic Church, demanding that they fund birth control and abortion services. When the Church rose up in anger, they compromised -- they only needed to accept birth control and abortion services, the funding would come later.

Angered by the arrogance and the mandate to go against their conscience, soon a bill was proposed that would stop these unConstitutional mandates. Within hours, Senators Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), and Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) assembled on Capitol Hill to denounce 'Republicans who wanted to keep women barefoot and pregnant', who wanted 'to bring us back to the medical dark ages'.

This was the plan all along. Obama picked a fight, on purpose, to be able to have these sound bites uttered. The media, complicit in every effort to bring America farther to the left, knows the lie but will not explain: This has nothing to do with contraception. This has everything to do with mandating religious behaviors and belief. Contraception is the hill they are fighting on, but the war is over forcing the Church to do something they will not -- and they CANNOT.

The media will never explain the nuances of this, and Team Obama knows that. They wish to mobilize women by making them believe -- amazingly -- that somehow, Republicans intend to poke holes in condoms and substitute Tic-Tacs for Birth Control Pills.

The fact George Stephanopoulos asked this question, during the January 7th debate -- into a political vacuum as regards this issue -- tells even the casual observer that this plan of attack was well-premeditated, and directed from the White House. The immediacy of response from the most diligently liberal also implies preparation. We have, in front of us, what the Democrats wish to make the election about: Scaring women with outright lies. Apparently, scaring the elderly in the same way isn't working as well.

Here’s what I still can’t get my mind around - Obama must know that eventually a republican will become president. Whether it is next year, 4 years from now or 8 - any precedent a president sets now for an unconstitutional power drive can just as easily be done by a member of the opposition.

Why couldn’t a republican president seize liberal jornolistas as well as liberals in general and place them incommunicado in detention and labor camps while they await disposal - humane disposal, of course?

A republican president could just “up the ante” a little bit.

My question is relative to my own idea that this president acts like he’s going to be the last president.

Isn’t that weird?

This is a full on, flat out assault on the First Amendment. No matter what the subterfuge, that is what it is, and anyone who argues differently only obfuscates the true issue, whether knowingly, (in most cases,) or unknowingly, (as in the case of making this either a health issue or a religious issue when it is neither.)

Excellent post. Thank you, Laz. It seems to me that as this issue has grown, Santorum has borne the brunt of this new attack, and apparently it's been successful. Someone here on Free Republic (I can't recall who) even referred to him as having a "caveman" approach to women and contraception.

That concerns me, and I don't particularly care for Santorum.

Snuffleupagus totally wrecked his career with this move.

He’ll be marked down as a journ-whore for the rest of his life after coordinating this with Valerie J and Media Matters.

Thank you for the compliment, trisham. I hope this editorial gets in the hands of the nations’ radio-talkers, and even into the GOP-e’s hands.

Not only an excellent analysis by Lazmataz (yes, Laz!) but good comments on the thread. This is an attack against the First Amendment primarily and I agree. It's a beat down on religious expression and freedom.

Au contraire, my friend. This is solid credential-building in the media, in its' current state.

They will love him for this, and they will run with the ofuscatory meme.

Provoke a confrontation, get a rise out of the victim, then blame the victim for it. That’s just another turn of the Alinsky cog. I think the Catholics are getting more sympathy than the administration figured on for this one, however, because it is abundantly clear it is not the Catholics who are forcing something on somebody here. It sounds more to me like an election LOSING issue for Obama. The stink may be difficult to purge by Election Day.

This has nothing to do with contraception, mandating religious behaviors or beliefs.....They simply tailored a provocation around what they knew would be a reflex response. And they executed it perfectly. And now they have their issue....

BINGO! They have admirably succeeded in making the Republicans seem like religious zealots .... fundamental zealots, of course. Oh the hemming ....oh the hawing ... oh the harrumphing. The Freeper who opined that all Santorum or whoever(were they actually honest-to-God Conservatives) had to say was
This is a phony issue. The Federal Government
has no place in Family Planning."

also gets the BINGO!

They may have screwed up. It remains to be seen. If this sort of information (in my editorial) circulates, they lose. If not, the media win and Obama gets a few points in the election.

Alas, there is a lack of a back-Boehn, so to speak. However it is going to be a sure campaign issue for all the GOP presidential hopefuls — even Mitt.

A perfect example of why spinelessness aka cowardice is just as bad as being an outright enemy; if not worse. Like the coward in “Saving Private Ryan”. That’s why in wartime cowards like that were executed (weren’t they at one time?). That creep caused so many deaths, not out of siding with evil directly, but just out of cowardly weakness of heart.
