Surprisingly, there was not any reference to soccer in the article or any attempt to indicate that any particular sport would or should “replace” football.

Soccer is very much a socailist type sport. Will never catch on like football, even if football were to suffer greatly from concussions.

Soccer is totally devoid of any political or other value. There is no point to it at all.

American football, however, takes on the cast of chess ~ a Russian favorite, particularly during the era of the Soviets!

I don't know if I'd call soccer a socialist sport. There's no coddling of under performing teams as in American pro sports. Finish last in a soccer league and it's off to the minor league for the squad and a team that wins in the lower lever moves up. The invisible hand works better in soccer than in US sports.
