Santorum's Michigan pitch calls him a 'trusted conservative'

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum -- in a neck-and-neck race with Mitt Romney in Michigan -- joined his rival in releasing new TV ad footage on Tuesday aimed at the state's voters.

Santorum's spots tout him as a "trusted conservative" and the choice of supporters of the "tea party" movement, social conservatives and evangelical Christians, all important elements of the Feb. 28 primary in Romney's home state.

One of the ads uses mainly written words -- praise in the form of quasi-endorsements and favorable quotes -- from Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, among others -- over an urgent sounding symphonic score (heavy on the percussion). The 30-second ad is filled with video of Santorum and his family, including three separate shots of his 3-year-old daughter Bella, whose health struggles have attracted wide attention and have become an increasing part of his campaign.

The only spoken words come at the end, in Santorum's approve-of statement, during which voters are urged to join his "fight."

I read the comments at the bottom on the website and they said, “he is not talking to the moderates who are the bulk of the electorate” and another said, “if the Republican Establishment want to get rid of Santorum they should get Donald Trump to endorse him.” I thought those were kinda funny. First of all some here on FR think he is moderate (roll eyes) and Donald Trump has already endorsed Mitt Romney and ever since Mitt has been down in the dumps. lol. I love it. His show starts on Sunday and I hope it fails miserably. I normally watch his show but will not this season as he is too much of a blowhard to me.

But can he lead? Will he just roll over for Boehner and McConnell? I feel Newt is the best man for the job. GO NEWT GO!

He better not wear any scarlet sweater vests there—it would bring back too many painful memories of Jim Tressel for Michiganders. On the bright side, he could win the welfare recipients’ vote with promises of free tattoos and sports cars.

I was talking to a lib co-worker today who thinks Santorum can’t win because he is “too far-right”.

Ironic givent the spew some FReepers have given him.

I’m just glad everything is finally starting to look bright and work out. From what I can tell, many Santorum supporters were previously on board with Bachmann and Cain. And for the record, I still respect and admire both. Yet, the same people that were spewing hate at Bachmann and Cain are for the most part the exact same people attacking Santorum. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

My biggest beef with Santorum was that he tends to use the pronouns “I” and “Me” too much and I’ve pointed that out before from the previous debates. But now that seems kind of petty. He ripped Romney a new one on Romneycare and I think he’s not gonna let up on Feb 22.

I PICK RICK!

I like it. It’s positive, and it focuses on his attributes instead of going after the candidates. It focuses on our number one opponent - Obama.
