Evans: How Gingrich wins the GOP Nomination
Newsmax ^ | 2/13/2012 | Randy Evans

Hang on to your hats folks! this election could go on for quite sometime.

"Gingrich planners projected that with only 396 delegates chosen in March, no clear frontrunner is likely to emerge until Texas (155 delegates on April 3) and there too the endorsement and help of Gov. Perry is to their advantage." It is a long and winding road until any candidate wins over 1,000 delegates needed to become the nominee.

April 3rd for us in Texas? Good luck with that. We’ll be lucky to have our primary by the middle of June...

Awesome post. People really have the short term memories of hummingbirds. Just a little more than a week ago, people were saying that Santorum should drop out, now he is the front runner. Let’s see what happens after the Romney machine is finished with Saint Rick, who is about as saintly, economic policy wise as a Borgia.

Thanks for the ping.

It’s not over yet. The myth of Romney’s inevitability is seriously starting to crumble. We need that to continue without let up, preferably through the PACs rather than directly by Newt. A fantastic debate performance on the 22nd would do a world of good.

Happy to see your expansion on our view.

I don't understand people, all I hear is the complaints about Obama and how he needs to be defeated, WELL YES. Ok so far. Now when you question them, here is what you get:

what do you think of NEWT? I DUNNO much about him, I just know he OLD and chubby.

what about Santorum? I DUNNO much about him, except OTHER people seem to like him, so I guess I will just go with them.

what do you think of Romney? I dunno, the media all seem to think he is super, maybe I will vote for him cause hes nice looking.

Do you read much? Huh, No, no time to study these things.

You are going to make one of the most important decisions of your lifetime, and YOU DON'T KNOW NOTHING? You want to defeat Obama, and YOU DON'T KNOW NOTHING?

DAMN YOU TO HELL, YOU NEED YOUR VOTER CARD PULLED, YOU ARE SO DAMN IGNORANT, you make me sick.

(Not you SAND88, I am Q&Aing & speaking with third person) lol

IMHO, Newt Gingrich would be a “big time” frontrunner right now, if not for Newt’s: personal baggage, political baggage, very big ego, lack of money, lack of experienced campaign handlers, and occasional turnover of all other people working for him/volunteering for him. Add to this the combined left’s/RINOS/elitist R’s/establishment R’s continuous attacks upon Newt and everybody who is “politically ignorant” and/or “politically stupid” wanting nothing to do with Newt, and it’s no wonder why Newt isn’t the present frontrunner.

But wait, aren’t you the same people who said Santorum was toast, he should withdraw?
The party will not nominate Newt for the worst reason in the basket; he’s strictly a House guy.
I’m not a Newt supporter, but not a hater; that’s just how I see it. If the convention needs a deal, it won’t be Newt.
If anyone can name the Republican nominee in the post war era who came out of the House, I’ll reconsider.

Palin folks have better manners than to hijack a Newt hope thread. Wish it went the other way.

I’ve had my on-and-off doubts, but still pumping for Newt....here in Colorado, the ACTUAL delegates will be chosen April 13 and 14. By delegates to the State Assembly (and I R 1)

You sound like Ann Coulter - it hasn’t happened before, so it can’t happen now.

I’m not saying Newt should withdraw. As long as he can find people to finance him and work for him he has a right to stay in.
I’m just looking at the tendencies of the parties; the Dems usually have a Senator, except for Clinton and Carter, the Pubs tend to go for governors, generals or private individuals.
Wesley Clark could never have been nominated for top spot by the Dems.
Newt will not be the Republican nominee. He’s not my choice so I don’t mind, but I take no special joy in this either. That’s why the talk last year of Paul Ryan was whistling in the wind.

I think what you’re missing, red, is that many of us don’t see Newt as “another house guy.” For good reason, I believe.

Excerpt from the article you posted:

“Other encouraging electoral numbers came with Florida election analysis that showed that Gingrich had increased the Republican vote in nearly every county he carried while Romney had had the opposite effect, a pattern that had been true in prior contests. Indeed, Fox News released last week a chart called by commentator Charles Krauthaummer “the Gingrich graphic” that showed that South Carolina — which Gingrich won handily — had a 22 percent increase in Republican voting while GOP balloting dropped off sharply in states won by other candidates.

Gingrich and his staffers were also encouraged by other recent developments. With the endorsements of Fred Thompson, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Michael Reagan, Todd Palin, and, yes, Chuck Norris — and with Sarah Palin saying nice things about Gingrich on national TV— they saw the populist versus elitist contrast they wanted with Romney who was settling for endorsements from old-line figures like Bob Dole, John McCain and Tom Delay.

In order to win in November, Republicans had to get more, not fewer voters to the polls.

However much it surprised others, some of us in the Gingrich meeting were not surprised to see voters use the blunt instrument of Rick Santorum’s underfunded candidacy to show what they actually thought of the Romney candidacy – a man with a great sense of entitlement but no sense of accountability.

In many ways it was reminiscent of Gingrich’s challenge to Democrats in 1994 – pundits’ incredulity followed by ridicule followed by an unpredictable victory at the ballot box and the first Republican House majority in four decades.

But if Gingrich emerges with a moral authority from the race thus far, Gingrich’s “electability” is being helped in other ways. Besides a reputation as substantive and well versed in the issues – one he advanced last weekend at his CPAC speech with its emphasis on an economic plan that with its flat tax, zero capital gains tax and strong currency position has won the support of supply-siders like Reaganomics architect Arthur Laffer — media reports are noting that the traveling press not only finds Gingrich the most accessible and interesting of the candidates but the most likable.

As a former Gingrich congressional intern who lived in his basement in 1979 and worked in his campaigns through the 80s during the lead-up to the GOP’s 1994 takeover of the House of Representatives, I know something about both Newt’s stick-to-it-tive-ness and his likability.

Faced in these days with skepticism, even scorn, from party elders who disliked his Contract With America and laughed at his hope of winning and keeping a House majority, Gingrich persevered and even (well, most of the time) cheerfully so.

After emerging the day before from the bubble of a hotel meeting room, many of these staffers had been authentically surprised to see press reports saying that at his Nevada Saturday press conference their candidate was going to announce his withdrawal from the race. Indeed just before the press conference one staffer got Gingrich’s authorization to tell the media “Up in Boston they keep saying that it is over. And then it isn’t. Well, it isn’t going to be over until the Tampa convention. Or until Romney drops out. Whichever comes first.”

Newt Gingrich; February 13:

“I think my ideas are much bolder than Santorum or Romney’s,” Gingrich said when asked why he didn’t mention either during his speech. “I think my ideas are much clearer and more specific and I have to focus on communicating those ideas. The two periods I focused on communicating those ideas I ended up No. 1 in Gallup both times. And we’re going back to doing what we did that worked.”

“When we went back and analyzed it I do dramatically better when I focus on the nation’s problems and I focus on the nation’s solution. So we took the lesson that has worked twice in the last 3 months.”

If Newt Gingrich can focus his plans for America versus the economic plans of Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney without getting personal, he’ll be back at the top pretty soon.
