Santorum's Second Surge

Several reporters, photographers, and TV camera crews were crowded into a small conference room Friday afternoon at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel in Washington. Hundreds of people were lined up outside the room, waiting to enter the "Rick Santorum Meet & Greet" which the program of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) listed as scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. ...

Santorum answered a couple of questions from the press gaggle, then did a brief TV interview with Andrea Tantaros of Fox News, before the crowd outside was led in to get their "grip-and-grin" moments with the candidate. While the candidate shook hands and posed for photographs with the CPAC attendees, I walked over to talk with his campaign's finance director, Nadine Maenza, who confirmed previous reports that Santorum had been raking in online donations at a pace of $1 million a day since Tuesday's trifecta. In fact, Maenza said, she had been informed that the campaign had already collected a half-million dollars that morning...

With more than two weeks to go before the next round of primaries (Feb. 28 in Arizona and Michigan), it is impossible to rule out another stunning upheaval in this year's turbulent Republican race. Already, the Romney campaign has begun re-targeting its brutal attack machine to take on Santorum, releasing negative "oppo" (opposition research) to the media, while the pro-Romney "super PAC" Restore Our Future buys Internet ads portraying Santorum as a proponent of pork-barrel spending. Being attacked by Team Mitt, however, could be seen as still more proof that Santorum's surge has made him the leading conservative opponent to Romney. ... How long he can remain standing is a question that will be answered in the days and weeks ahead.

Gingrich had better get after this unredeemed and unrepentant statist and fast.

Romney sure won’t do it unless Gingrich has been removed from the field of play. This is disaster looming folks, and we had better wake up fast.

I saw Rick Santorum tonight. He gave almost an hour long speech which told about the peril we are in, fiscally as well as socially. I kept saying over and over to myself that Rick is a candidate who really gets it. He knows where we are headed if Zer0 is kept in office one more term.

As Rick was talking he was rudely interrupted by youths in green hair and punked out fashion. It was an outdoor event and they were as loud as they could be and they did not stop. They even drove their cars past the event (we were next to a main street) and stopped to honk their horns. For them they wanted to stop Rick from talking. They wanted to obstruct Rick’s right to speak.

However, I was greatly impressed with Santorum’s handling of them. He repeated several times how they were living in a country where they were free to express themselves and the he respected their right to do so. Then he brought out the Bill of Rights and Constitution from his pocket and told how the Constitution was the document that ensured our Bill of Rights. We received a real schooling tonight about the meaning of our Declaration of Independents, the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. While the yahoos were hollering, Santorum told about why these words set this nation apart from anything else in human history: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” I wish my fellow FRiends could have heard it.

Then, Rick told about these last words: “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.” Rick said that these signers of the document were risking great consequences to declare our independence from the greatest world power in the history of mankind, Great Britain. He said it was their “sacred Honor” to do so. Then he turned his attention to the hollering demons at the rally. He said that they have little consequence for disrupting ones freedom to speak. They would not lose their lives our fortune. That those who do risk their lives and fortune are our brave men and women in the military who fight for their freedom to holler and disrupt. They have no honor because they show no respect and sacrifice nothing, unlike our brave men and women in uniform. The crowd roared with approval. Yes, they got a schooling from Rick Santorum.

I was not going to go this long, but I thought my FRiends would appreciate my thoughts.

Thanks for your post. Santorum sounds just great. I always knew he was great on the social issues-—it is the fiscal ones I was worried about. We have to eliminate the DOE, too, so another generation is not brainwashed into OWS drones who can’t think. The OWS reminds me of the Nazis-—they were so rude and fascist and ridiculed people for fun. Santorum did awesome.

Santorum knows exactly what is killing jobs in America. It is Zer0’s huge regulatory binge, spearheaded by Obamacare on the economy. He wants to bring jobs back to the United States—jobs that have been driven away by regulation and taxation.

He also told us about the realities of our energy problem where, since Zer0 came into office, oil prices have doubled. He told us that in five years we will be shutting down the Alaskan oil pipeline because of dwindling Alaskan oil, Mexican oil will no longer be available and Venezuelan oil will all be going to China. In effect, we will have 4 million barrels of oil per day no longer available for our use. We could have had one million barrels per day of that oil from the Keystone XL pipeline that Zer0 stopped. If the current regime’s war on carbon continues, America will be in dire straits economically.

Wow, thanks. If you guys keep santorum’s momentum high with your primaries, maybe I will get a chance to hear him speak live in CA! I love him pulling out the D of I and Constitution. That must have been really something.

Newt has conservative ecconomic accomplisments in his resume, Romney has a wasteland of ecconimic destruction in his. So what, other than being a nice guy, does Santorum have to show us?

And enjoy it I did! The thing I got the biggest kick out of was that he actually incorporated the demonstrators into his speech, and kept on going. You guys were rowdy, and looking like you were having a great time cheering AND shouting down the protesters.
