Her CPAC speech today was a barn-burner, hitting every conservative, small-government point and pumping out soundbites that will no doubt resonate in the public dialogue for days to come. Some of my favorites:
Drain the Jacuzzi!
This government isnt too big to fail, its too big to succeed.
We dont want an economy built to last, we want an economy built to grow.
This is Obamas Washington.
Her signature line in this speech was The door is open. She meant that political conditions are becoming conducive to a renewed commitment to small government and liberty. Peoples mindsets are changing. We are not governed by the rules of political seasons past; the door is open to choosing our candidates and charting our nations future on a different basis. The door is open to not accepting a continuation of the false compromises of previous decades.
**snip**
We cant have a candidate who sounds like Mitt Romney, but will lead the way a small-government conservative would. Thats not an option. What were doing in this primary season is coming to grips with that reality. I think Palin knew instinctively that we would have to, before it would make sense for her to jump back into the electoral fray.
She believes God has a plan for her life, and that He gives her a certainty in her spirit about the big choices she has to make. I suspect she has had a peaceful certainty that joining the campaign as a candidate for 2012 was not something she should do. If she were to analyze it, she might say that God knows better than any of us how the voters concerns and expectations are going to change.
Meanwhile, the door is open.

Give ‘em hell, Harry might be surprised to hear that. So would Jimmah, Teddy, Jack, Ike, Abe, and a few others whose first names weren’t quite debasing enough.
Counterexample: Nixon (after Watergate).
Granted, he got elected first and then they started calling him that, but still...
Cheers!
Sarah Palin has long impressed me as the only figure out there to have internalized the lessons of Reaganism, not just the policies but the approach to politics and gaining office. She probably has calculated that this time is too soon and is actually running for the nomination in 2016. She probably expects the kenyan to win this time whoever the Republican nominee is and probably figures she doesn’t need to have to fight the Romney campaign budget which is second only to the Obama budget, albeit a distant second. Romney cannot win himself the Presidency but he can destroy the prospects of other Republicans while trying.
1976 was a similar situation for Reagan. Probably no Republican could have won that year. Replacing a sitting president in the primary doesn’t translate into electoral victory. Running as the Nixon successor was not propitious either. Reagan ran in the primaries but seemed almost relieved when it went to Ford. But he got his chops in for 1980. Palin isn’t running in this year’s primaries but she is maintaining herself as the Voice of serious conservatives and is effectively the conscience of the party. The problem, of course, is will there be a country whose office is even available in 2016.
Well, I guess you think Newt's Just SOL, then.
I’m convinced that we need to forget about getting a Republican President, and work towards a Veto-proof Congress. Failing that, we can have gridlock...the last time we had that in the 1990’s the Economy boomed.
What about Give-em-Hell Harry?
Personally I LIKE IKE
Blah blah blah. The world and everyone in it are pwn3d. Get yer houses in order.
Ever dawn on you that it’s worth it to some of us to have her bus hauling her around saying the things we believe in?
I hope she buys a Ferarri next to get to the stops faster.
You hate her. We know. We don’t care, but we know. I’m sorry she didn’t ball up and roll away to make you happy Gunner. Really I am. But she ain’t going away. And IF she does manage to have a positive influence on the election, you get the benefit to.
Now if she stood there spouting anti-American commie crap, I’d be right there with you. But since she is out there pushing for the things we as Freepers believe in, your attempts at smearing her, by logical reasoning, put you on the other team.
If you aren’t, then please explain why the edict laid down about ‘no more bashing conservatives’ doesn’t apply to you and your petty sniping comments. And considering she was included in that edict (for good reason), good luck being the special exception.
Candidates. It's unwise to bash conservative candidates.
She ain't one, never was.
I don't smear her. I just point out the facts and my own views on them.
It's called an opinion.
Would you prefer that I didn't have an opinion? Or that I didn't state it?
Pick one, but I doubt you'll get your wish.
I’d prefer you acted like an adult rather than a catty schoolgirl. And no, split hairs on ‘candidates’ all you like but I doubt I’ll get my wish.
That the best you got Gunner?
The US population is not conservative enough (yet) to vote for a true conservative — whether it’s Palin or anyone else. Sure, the country is in transition, but it’s not there yet. That’s why Romney is still succeeding.
If you don’t agree with me, consider the lady at the Tea Party rally with the sign, “Hands off my social security!”. That lady self-identifies as a conservative but she’s really a liberal who believes in gov’t largess.
The senior citizens and the Baby Boomers are not happy with Obama, but they sure aren’t conservative enough to vote for a true conservative. And those two groups together are still the biggest voting block.
“Just cause your bus has County Prisoners written
on the side is no reason to feel bad.
At least you got to ride.”
Now that’s funny! I don’t care who you are! heh heh
JC
Largely true IMO, but I’d add this. That woman and a few million like here would be in the street without SS. We have to transition out of the system they spent a lifetime paying into. The Dems tell them someone (evil Republicans) will just strip SS from them. And the stupid GOP PR depr has done a horrid job explaining to them that privatizing SS is not an immediate all or nothing proposition that leaves them homeless.
Send me a check for what I have paid in and stop taking it out and I fine with SS going away.
I'd like to see SP as Sec. of the Interior in a Pub administration in 2013.
Good analysis!
Palin isn’t running because she knows that we Conservatives
have a penchant for self-cannibalization.
You are correct???
