BLYTHE, Calif.A major Southern California solar energy project could be delayed or even canceled following a deadly outbreak of distemper among kit foxes and the discovery of a prehistoric human settlement on the work site, according to a report Saturday.
The $1 billion Genesis Solar Energy Project near Blythe in the desert east of Los Angeles was on track to start producing power for some 187,500 homes starting in 2014.
But critics tell the Los Angeles Times ( http://lat.ms/wrtgOD) the distemper outbreak and discovery of a possible Native American cremation site show that expedited procedures approved by state and federal regulators failed to protect wildlife and irreplaceable cultural resources. They say the problems could probably have been avoided by more rigorous research and planning.
The 250-megwatt plant was backed by an $825 million Department of Energy loan guarantee. Genesis had hoped to be among the first of a dozen approved solar farms to start operating in Southern California.

Don’t worry. Obama is asking for billions for high-speed rail for California.
Aside from tax dollars down the hole, you have to admit it’s pretty funny.
Why in the hell is even one extra dollar being spent in CA considering the economic state of affairs there?
The DemocRATS’ “alternative energy” projects just don’t seem to be ready for primetime. It looks like we need to dump more taxpayer dollars down those rat holes and just continue to “hope”.
I think that kinda describes the Obama administration. But of course, in the movie, Billy Ray wises up. Pure fiction.
“The 250-megwatt plant was backed by an $825 million Department of Energy loan guarantee.”
Another “green energy” boondoggle. What a damned waste of money.
This should also illustrate that the enviro-lunatics simply want no energy production or industry whatsoever.
Oh, how I love it when Liberals get screwed by Liberals. Reminds me of the Peta nerds laying down in front of Teamsters wagons in the ‘96 Demonratz Convention :))))
This is the precise reason why the California “Train to Nowhere” boondoggle will end up costing billions more to build then the “estimates” they give now.
Even worse, the California “Train to Nowhere” will cost billions of dollars anyhow and will still NEVER BE BUILT.
I saw a recent post that applies there. Paraphrasing, “Liberals aren’t a grouping of common interests, but a mass of competing parasites.”

A high speed rail service, aboard which they do stem cell research, powered by solar energy plants. Only in California is it possible.

I suspect that this project wasn’t too far off from being economically viable - being that it’s in the middle of the desert, using a well-proven technology. Government loan guarantees are probably needed PRECISELY because of foxes and remains. In other words, our environmental and Indian crap laws prevent us from even using our own land for something that might even make sense.
In the movie the Producers, they were only going to make money IF the play was a flop.
I am not saying this is the case of all these energy projects, but if they get loans to build something, and they actually had to produce once built, it is a risk.
If however they get loans guaranteed by the government, and after getting as much money as possible, find a reason not to complete the project, they they win, since they can walk away with the money, taxpayers left holding the bag.
If we had an honest media in this nation someone would (as often instructed) follow the money. Just how could they get so far down before the environmentalist discovers something that shuts them down?
I do not know if this is all a scam or not, but I do know the federal government has no business financing private companies (who if it all works out reap any profits).
They want the profits they and their investors should take the risk.
...deadly outbreak of distemper among kit foxes and the discovery of a prehistoric human settlement on the work site
It’s all about the graft....
It suggests to me that a clandestine burying of AmerIndian artifacts, like arrowheads, etc., on a proposed mosque site, and then claiming it was “an ancient Indian burial ground” would cause Liberal heads to explode over the dilemma. (Yes, I know a dead pig would work too, but I was being creative. :-) )
“New Jack City” is how I see the Administration
