Gingrich: If it comes to a shutdown, the GOP should stick to its principles
The Washington Post ^ | 2/25/2011 | Newt Gingrich

Posted on 02/11/2012 10:50:08 PM PST by JediJones

The Washington establishment believes that the government shutdown of 1995 was a disastrous mistake that accomplished little and cost House Republicans politically.

The facts are exactly the opposite.

While the shutdown produced some short-term pain, it set the stage for a budget deal in 1996 that led to the largest drop in federal discretionary spending since 1969. The discipline imposed by this budget — overall spending grew at an average of 2.9 percent a year while I was speaker of the House, the slowest rate in decades — allowed us to reach a balanced-budget deal in 1997.

...the balanced budget was an outcome driven by House Republicans with limited support from skeptical Senate Republicans [Me: RINOs.].

House Republicans passed a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget. Seventy-two Democrats joined us, giving us the required two-thirdsmajority to amend the Constitution. Unfortunately, the Senate failed to reach this threshold by one vote.

Our constitutional amendment would have set a seven-year deadline to balance the budget. We adopted the same timetable and created a plan that would end deficit spending by 2002.

It was President Bill Clinton’s veto of our budget in December 1995 that closed the government. The White House knew that it could use the power of the presidency and the support of liberal media to blame us.

We could cave in and be accepted by the Washington establishment, or we could stand firm for a balanced budget for the American people.

We decided to stick to our principles through a very contentious and difficult period.

Nonetheless, the ultimate result was the first four consecutive balanced budgets since the 1920s...

Becoming one more promise-breaking, Washington-dominated, sellout group is a much worse fate — politically and ethically — than having the government close for a few days.

He is a new man in Christ Jesus, and yet, people like you, refuse to let him take one step out of his past, into the new life and personhood promised him by Christ. Why exactly is that?

I thought it was wrong for a Christian to judge? You have judged Gingrich's soul and absolved him of sin. Please tell me how God gave you the power of judgement of Gingrich's soul and revelation of this to other human's. Please tell me where in Scripture it says you have the ability to judge his soul? I( know of no Scripture to back up your claims. You must have some kind of extra-Scriptural revelation from God?

Plus, how come Gingrich is not to be judged, but you can condemn me? Don't the same rules apply to me as him? (Even though I didn't say what you claimed I said)

I never even wanted Santorum to run. I was displeased with him for a lot of reason. But at this point, he’s better than the megaRINOs. But, by all means, buy into the Romney/MSM spin machine.

There was a political conversation going on, you brought up the world adultery... having nothing to do with the discussion...

You mentioned it to demean Newt... you don’t know his heart, you don’t know his soul... you know the sins he committed in the past... and based on those past sins, you deem him unfit...

YIKES!

I have just now had the time to listen to *that*!

It begs the question, why is Santorum running aginst Rommey now? What’s changed?

No, I accept his testimony as a fellow believer in Christ. He says he has confessed his sins, he regrets them, he has repented. I believe what he says.. I don’t judge him, good or bad. And there is no behavioral sin in his life to cause me to doubt his words.. I believe what he, as a believer, says about his walk with Christ.

What I said about people like you, who brings up newt’s sins and his past, over and over, is that you refuse to let him take one step out of his past, into the new future and life that God has promised him. That is objectively apparent, Newt will never be anything but an adulterer to you... After 20 years... you won’t let him step into the new life that God has promised him... why even mention the word adultery? Why?

I brought it up because he was having adultery when he knew the revelation would help Clinton. Can you understand that?

Wow, I never claimed I knew his heart or his sins. Go back and look, I never said anything about that. But YOU did claim you knew his heart and his soul. Go back and read your thread. The attacks you are directing at me, you mean to direct at yourself. You are the one doing things contradicting Christianity. Sheesh.

Bearing false witness is a sin and against the commandments. Mitt and Rick are sinners.

Psalm 101:5 “Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure.”

Mark 8:36 “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”

Rick is a big time sinner - he better start zipping the lip and ask Newt for forgiveness and the voters he has deceived.

I don't doubt your post, but remember a lot of crap gets put in some really important bills and its done most of the time at the last minute...that's one way a lot of crap becomes law..Like the 20000 pages of Obamacare. I think no bill should be over 3 pages long, double spaced. If its longer than that there is a lot of monkey business going on it bills...It use to be democrats would add crap to defense bills, Totally unrelated to the original law written...

The 10 commandments was written on 2 stone tablets and easy enough for even a democrat to understand, but they break all 10 anyway...

>> He is a new man in Christ

He was never without Christ.

Pay no attention to the sanctimony stating otherwise.

You want your damn liberty back, vote Newt.

Forget the delusional moral elites. Their hearts are tainted with contempt.

Mitt, Rick, and nickcarraway are sinners, and Newt Gingrich is a pure angel. I don’t care for Romney or Santorum that much, but I don’t make any claims about their soul. But I think it’s hilarious that God tells you that Gingrich is His messenger and beyond reproach, and everyone else is a sinner. I don’t think anyone needed to bring immortal souls into this debate. But I guess since you to were bestowed special powers by God to know who his good and evil, the rest of us bad Christians will slink away, trembling before the mighty gifts God gave thee.
