You make some good points, but my calculus was this.

Newt has a lot more talent than Santorum and has the ability off the cuff to actually decisively win arguments and change minds. Santorum simply does not.

Newt’s actual legislative accomplishments are slightly more conservative but WAY MORE significant than Santorum’s.

Santorum’s whole strategy was to niche politic in Iowa and fly under the radar and gain momentum among a tiny swath of voters and then hope it gets magnified in the press. It’s worked, but it’s cynical and there is no way in hell he can mobilize large numbers of people. HIs “four states” were all tiny populations. He “niched” it. That’s all he can do.

He’d be a decent President with the right congress. He’d be a wimpy Mr. Rogers disaster as a nominee though.

Well the coming months will tell. In the meantime, look at my analysis of Romney and use it or internalize it in your stuff to whatever degree you think its useful.

In the meantime Santorum has raised 3 million bucks, Is double Gingrich in the polls, and is calculating his next wins. Gingrich has to stop sliding before he can start rising.

My guess is there will be a brokered convention but things could coalesce anytime around anyone of these four.

I painfully watched the Santorum “speech” (babbling) at CPAC yesterday. Talk about melodramatic, boring and pointless! And this is the guy the base is supposedly falling all over themselves to vote for in the next primary??! (Well, at least this week anyway.)

But, back to those incoherent mumblings from Santorum, (he had the audacity to call a speech) even my dog begged me to turn the channel! My wife left the room and I opened a cookbook to find a good recipe for beef jerky.

And then came Newt Gingrich.......what a contrast! And the electorate must have the attention span of a 3 year old, to ignore what Newt has to say, or his ability to say it! It was nothing short of awe inspiring and electrifying! It's embarrassing to watch this ship of fools who calls themselves the CONservative base, so caught up in their arrogant opinions of themselves, turn their backs on the most intellectual solution and most obvious professional who is qualified and capable to fix this mess, only to go for a moronic dolt like Santorum with totally blind abandon.
