Some Republicans expressed concern that Mitt Romney's campaign is stuck in neutral and limping, not lunging, toward the party's U.S. presidential nomination.
Even before Rick Santorum's sweep of contests in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri Tuesday, the Romney campaign was getting warnings and advice from Republicans concerned about the former Massachusetts governor's performance on the stump, which hasn't improved since the state caucuses and primaries began early in January,

Who is this “dredge” you speak of?
Wall Street Journal, by Peggy Noonan :
The Romney campaign is better at dismantling than mantling
10 Print “RINOmney is a vapid dork.”
20 Go to 10
Is that Fortran?
That is one of the classic problems with using deep personal attacks and the personal destruction approach.
It merely reflects on the basic integrity of the one who resorts to such tactics. It really does matter, HOW you win, as well as what you say. Winning by sticking a knife in your opponents back, along with spending millions in hateful campaign ads to do so, eventually and rightfully, contributes to the downfall of the one who resorts to it.
The GOP establishment thinks they can change a sow’s ear into a silk purse. Not gonna happen. Mitt 2008 is Mitt 2012. We didn’t want him then and we don’t want him now.
Romney, back when he was running to the left of Kennedy, was glib, smooth and convincing when he said he’d support all the liberal platform.
Now that he’s a, I mean, always has been a conservative, he’s full of stops, stammers, umms and ahhs, “let me explain what I really meant”.
What the Karl Rove establishment types didn’t see coming was the strong challenge from the Conservative movement, Rick and Newt. Because of this challenge, Milt has been exposed as a weak candidate, far weaker than in ‘08. His campaign is also so big and cumbersome that they can’t shift messages or reasonably defend themselves.
As far as I am concerned, Milts campaign is a disaster considering the money and support he has over the rest of the field.
Tough job, as it is difficult to read when someone has flung dung all over it.
The only thing Romney has had is dispersal of negatives against the other candidates.
Like Helen Thomas in a beauty contest deploring the morals of the other contestants.
It doesn't improve her looks.
Did you hear the joke at CPAC?
A liberal, a moderate and conservative went into a bar.....The bartender said “Hi Mitt”
Besides, real programmers would write:
while(1) { printf("Rommney is a dork!!!\n"); }
;-)
Exactly. The GOP-e thinks it’s as simple as retooling the message? It’s not the message. It’s the candidate.
If Romney stops his carpet-bombing strategy, now, against the new opponent Santorum, it goes to show how much Santorum should thank Gingrich for taking the heat for him, and for derailinbg Romney by being the target of Romney’s carpet-bombing and by revealing the true color of Romney with some factual ads.
Again, Santorum is one lucky son who has a step-brother Gingrich to take the fall for him yet getting all the blames!
Santorum is not much better, except he's more believable in the conservative credentials. Santorum doesn't have a lot of suggestions that aren't about fixing or abolishing Obama's works.
A way forward is not found by looking at the ground.

I would bet $10,000 that Drudge-Rhoades will not stop their carpetbombing strategy since it works in the short term. The GOP-e has hung their hat on this strategy because nothing else works for their man Romney
The only question is WHEN will they unleash their carpetbomb attack on Santorum? That’s the question.
>>What the Karl Rove establishment types didnt see coming was the strong challenge from the Conservative movement...<<
If Karl Rove didn’t see a “strong challenge from the Conservative movement” coming this year, after the 2010 results, he shouldn’t ever be listened to for political advice again.
He saw it coming, didn’t like it, and is trying to submarine it by backing Romney, as are all the other “establishment types” who have lined their pockets with our tax dollars and campaign contributions and earmarks over the years.
2010 was a mini-housecleaning. They’re trying to stop 2012 from being a major housecleaning. We’ll only know it succeeded when houses start falling in the fancier DC suburbs someday.
Romney was exposed as to how shallow his message was and his lack of core beliefs by Newt’s ability to lift himself into the lead without money but with his message, abilities and capabilities. Romney then resorted to not just negative campaigning but to repeated lies and distortions and kept repeating them even after they were discredited and proven false, thus he exposed his true character or I should say lack of. The Rinos and media saw nothing wrong with negativity until Newt responded. And what did Dr.Paul have to gain by running negative and un-truthful ads againdt a candidate who was not in the lead? Why hasn’t Paul ever attacked Romney?
