First Lady Michelle Obama leaves Thursday for a three-day, four-state tour to mark the second anniversary of her Lets Move! initiative to get Americans to eat healthier and be more physically fit.
The trip is a mix of events and announcements, including one Thursday about a program intended to combat weight gain among members of the military.
Mrs. Obama will make the announcement, along with the Department of Defense, at the Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., which has participated in a pilot program for the initiative. The initiative melds Mrs. Obamas two signature policy goals as first lady combating obesity and caring for military families. The Obama administration has cast childhood obesity as a national security issue.
Jonathan Woodson, assistant secretary of Defense for health affairs, has said that 25% of those who want to join the military are too overweight to make it through the initial process and that weight gain is increasingly a problem among active-duty service members. The Defense Department also estimates it spends $1.1 billion a year on medical care for weight-related problems.
The Department of Defense considers obesity not only a national problem but a national security issue, Mr. Woodson told reporters in advance of Mrs. Obamas trip....

She thinks the military is a dead weight anyway. Can we just look at this chick and come to the conclusion that she should keep her trap shut on weight? Has the world gone mad?
Many people tend to focus on miscellaneous stuff when they have nothing better to do.
I guess this would be one way for them to start downsizing our
military! Start weighing them and boot them out without weight loss!!!!
WTF? When I was in, it was very simple. You flunk your weight on the physical, they boot your ass out the door. How hard is that?
I think we are all living in a rabbit hole NOW,!!!!!
To quote the late, great Charlton Heston:
“Its A Madhouse,A Madhouse”
Is it too much to ask for us to just launch her fat ass off to the Moon?
So horrible for a First Lady to take on the cause of being the national ‘Fat Nazi’. Why do First Ladies need a cause anyway? Can’t they just be the President’s wife and be done with it?

hey it’s better than saying how much she hates America all the time.
Yeah, when I was in, there were only three people in “my” company who we considered fat: The 1st Sargeant who was 38 and therefore naturally a little heavier than the rest of us, and one E-4 and the XO, neither of whom was more than about 10% overweight (but of course us young guys thought they were blimps). Truly obese soldiers just weren’t a serious problem for the Army in those days, imo. Are they now? Is it really that bad? The guys I see on tv who are in Iraq and Afghanistan right now... I haven’t seen any fat ones... What is Moochelle on about?
This from “All this to fold a flag...first time I’m proud of my country” Meeshell. Like she cares about our country and military. I know from my dad being in the military and what he said, anytime he started getting a little portly, they got onto him about it and he did something about it. . They don’t need some America hating, affirmative action First Lady running her trap about it. And when did this First Lady and their causes business first occur in our history. I don’t like it. I didn’t like it with Nancy Reagan, and I don’t like it now. It’s just feel-good photo-op stuff that wastes taxpayer money and doesn’t do any good. If Todd Palin or whomever had become the first gentleman, I would expect him to keep a low profile too.
“program intended to combat weight gain among members of the military.”
Ha! I will give odds on one military member against 10 of her!
Yes...we’ve all fallen down the rabbit hole.
The first time a First Lady had an official ‘cause’ was with Lady Bird Johnson, who made her cause the cleanup of highway shoulders. Eleanor Roosevelt was outspoken during FDR’s reign, but didn’t have a cause (Tractors for Cuba) until well after his death.
IN the Marine Corps they already do this
That’s about the size of it. In the Navy, all it took was a Page 13 entry, and you were warned. Get thin, or get out. One guy I knew at CNFJ was a real porker until the Admiral took a personal interest. A year later he was running half marathons.
She thinks their butts aren't big enough or high enough and they wear their belts much too low.
