If I call Microsoft's or Walmart's customer service, the person at the other end of the line isn't any sort of expert on corporate policy.

Maybe it should be different with political parties, but it's doubtful that it's acually the case.

Chances are Josh is a low-paid lackey who just takes messages and deals with changes of address.

Yes, of course, chances are Josh is not really qualified to discuss the finer points of Republican politics, he’s just a phone monkey. However, if that is the case, then the RNC needs to train folks like Josh not to get into these kinds of discussions and offer their personal opinions.

I deal with customers at my work, and there are things I’m not qualified to talk about that they ask me about all the time. I’m not allowed to just go ahead and opine about them even though that’s outside my domain of expertise, I have to refer them to someone else in the company that is qualified to field those questions. Why should Josh be any different?
