ledging to run a "national campaign" and denying he faces a do-or-die "Alamo" moment in Texas -- whose April 3 primary will award 155 delegates -- Newt Gingrich accused newly minted frontrunner Rick Santorum of being a "Big Labor Republican" who has attacked the Tea Party and amassed a voting record conservatives will find "dubious."
In an impromptu interview at the Fox News Washington bureau, the former House speaker claimed Santorum's clean sweep of this week's nominating contests in Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri shows that the Republican presidential primary is a "wide open race" he can still win. Asked if Santorum's ascendancy deprives Gingrich's own candidacy of oxygen, Gingrich maintained that he appeals to a wider and deeper constituency in the GOP electorate.
"Among Tea Party members, I have a much stronger following than Rick does. And they understand that it's principled and that I am supportive of the Tea Parties; I am not attacking them, as he did," Gingrich said.
His campaign cited a 2011 video, now circulating online, in which Santorum can be heard telling an audience in Harrisburg he has "real concerns" about efforts by the Tea Party to refashion conservatism, and added that he planned to "vocally and publicly oppose it."
But Gingrich didn't stop there. While calling Santorum a friend,

I am TIRED of Newt attacking GOP canidates...if he wants traction, attack the ENEMIES.
whose April 3 primary will award 155 delegates”
Aint gonna be an April 3 primary in Texas. Earliest is April 17, and it grows later daily.
Nothing against Rick, Newt Gingrich is an extrodinary man with extroidnary talents, abilities and capabilities that we desperatly need as a country to survive.
They are running for office, and it is fair to point out the opponent’s weaknesses.
It should also be pointed out that Rick’s primary target has been Mitt, not Newt. For example:

Just Damn!!! The tired, old, angry Adulturer and the slick-tongued, lying, RINO are hell-bent now on destroying Santorum. They’ve already destroyed any chance either of them had to defeat Obozo with their destructive, negative in-fighting. I hope Santorum wins the nomination and those two have to sit in the Gallery at the Convention scratching their ba**s and their butts.
When is truth an attack? Santorum takes out ads against Newt. I don’t recall Newt doing that.
But I do agree with you. He’s best when he’s positive and on message about our country, and kicks Obama.
I've noticed, you watch, and then tell me. It's his body language. When he talks, his hands, face and body are not in sync with his words. Don't know what that means, but he looks to be very uncomfortable.
North Florida is Southern, South Florida is not so Southern.
When that happened he fought back...Something I think most of us would have done.
How it was done....might be of issue.
Mitt has a money machine...and it does what it does. Make no mistake about that.
Obama and the Dims are the enemy. No doubt about it.
But I have a feeling...that Mitt will not attack Obama like he's attacked fellow Republican's.......
FWIW-
“I am not attacking them, as he did,” Gingrich said.
umm you’re the one who attacked Wall Street and ‘inhumane’ immigration policy while pandering to the open borders crowd.
Santorum is a good and decent man, but I dont think anyone seriously thinks he can run this country with the problems we have.

Bullshit!!! Apparently a lot of “anyones” in Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado think he can. Hell, I could run this country if I am smart enough to surround myself with good, Conservative people who have the intellect and the stamina to fix our problems. That’s something Obozo did not have sense enough to do.
“Thank you, for hanging in there. Each posting that tells me Newt is not leaving the race makes me feel better.”
I want the old Newt back. I don’t want this new Newt who has to resort to leftist arguments in order to score a cheap shot.
If your mom’s in New York like you are, there’s no need to waste time worrying about how she’ll vote in the general election. Make some phone calls to PA where the effort might count for something:)
Excuse me, but the TX primary won’t be in April.

That’s news to me. Did they change the date again? It was originally set for March Super Tuesday, but was moved to April 3rd due to the court battle over the new Redistricting Map. When did they move it from April? I just heard an announcement, on the radio this a.m. on the way to work, from the TX State GOP and they said it was April 3rd. Whassup? Did they move it to May?
It’s getting old talking about baggage. Newt’s been vetted and lied about by Mitt,Santorum, the MSM,Fox(not conservative anymore)talk radio, debate moderators and the list goes on and on.Newt has done more for conservatism than all the others.
This country needs him to get us back on tract.
By the way I admire Perry for putting his country first.
Will do, I have a cousin who lives in PA as well.
Bottom line, Santorum is extremely close to G.W. Bush in both personal matters and politics. Newt is very close to Cheney politically and in style. That ticket is electable. I’d rather Newt at the top of the ticket. But I believe Santorum is always going to rate as more likable than Newt and that is an asset in the general election. Bottom line, I’m comfortable with our chances with either of those guys at the top and I think in either combination they’d give us as conservative a government as we could hope for. I expect both of them to hold to the right and not backtrack on any campaign promises.
GOPee is not afraid of Rick. They are sure he wouldn't be able to fight GOPee as effectively as Newt, He's become plan b, unless there is a brokered convention, when they will bring out Daniels or some other squishy candidate.
This doesn’t sound like an attack that would hurt Santorum in the general election. Unions are doing just fine in Ohio, and down but not out in Wisconsin. Heck, Newt has already proven himself too conservative for some voters in the primary (NH, FL). Sad but true. I’m afraid this attack by Newt could backfire, and just help Rick in the Midwest where they already seem to like his corporate welfare proposal for the manufacturing industry.
I don't believe it's a case of Newt being "too conservative". It's more like Newt being "too unstable".
There is a thing called "Presidential Temperament". Whether Newt has it or not is a very open question.
