This has been a big problem for me for a long time...
I can’t imagine how much worse things would be if the Supreme Court had one more lib on it. I was mad at Santorum for a long time but now I think he did what he had to.
Likewise for me.
It is not just an issue of Specter supporting Obamacare, because Santorum has held his ground on that issue from the beginning. But, Arlen Specter is onoe of the most blatant examples of everything wrong with our government and political system. He was a life long quisling parasite on our economy and in our congress who would do anything necessary to build his power, stuff his pocket or curry favor in exchange for votes. He has no moral base and for Santorum to align himself with the scumbag was a move I could never understand.

It’s called Senatorial courtesy, endorsing a fellow Senator of one’s own party as long as there are no ethics charges. In retrospect, it was a mistake, but I say let bye-gones be bye-gones.
Santorum said Alito would not be a Justice if it weren’t for Specter. Specter was very effective at being the head of the Judicial Committee.
Rick Santorum realized that the Dems would have control of the Judicial Committee, if the GOP didn’t have the majority in the Senate, and he thought Specter would have the best chance of winning, as well as being an effective head of the Judicial Committee.
