China’s ‘Hero Cop’ Vanishes Into ‘Vacation-Style Therapy’

China’s most famous cop has been placed on leave for “vacation-style therapy” after a rumored U.S. asylum bid that had an American consulate surrounded by Chinese police.

This morning in China began with chatter that an incident had unfolded overnight outside the U.S. consulate in the western Chinese city of Chengdu. Pictures began to spread across Sina Weibo, China’s answer to Twitter, showing Chengdu police blocking off the streets around the consulate.

A name, Wang LiJun, began to trend alongside those pictures on the micro-blogging site. By mid-morning, searches for his name soon became blocked, usually a tell tale sign of a sensitive issue.

Wang , 52 , is the vice mayor of neighboring Chongqing and until last week was the city-province’s top cop credited in leading a successful crackdown on organized crime. A martial arts expert, he gained reputation for his tough and sometimes allegedly legally-tenuous gang-busting ways. He even inspired a TV series called “Iron-Blooded Police Spirits” based on his exploits. According to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post, Wang accumulated 20 scars from knife and bullet wounds and was once in a coma for 10 days after battling the triads.

“Iron-Blooded Police Spirits”

I’ll be looking for that in the fall line up.

The man has probably seen the inner workings of the chicom controlled government and wants out. I don’t blame him. I just hope he can get to safety, and somewhere where they are real freedom.

Wang was/is a pretty famous guy. He has been a pain the side to the triads and corrupt PRC people for a number of years. His posting to this area was an attempt to move him out "in the sticks."
Once there, the local party power guy,Communist Party Secretary Bo Xilai, decided to hook-up with Wang and use him to remove those whose interests conflicted with his own.
They had a falling out and now Wang is on the sh!t list and has a short life expectancy if he stayed in town. So he hit the road - He is no dummy. Wang is a sharp guy.
As of this morning, 9 Feb, the U.S. Consulate in ChegDu has a "No comment" on whether Wang made it into the consulate or not. Local police were surrounding the place, but latest reports have them cleared out.
This publicity has PO'd the PRC and now Communist Party Secretary Bo Xilai is also "unavailable for comment."
His whereabouts are currently unknown - the party doesn't like bad publicity.

The fun never stops.

Bo Xilai

Isn't he the guy who champions fight against greed and corruption of the privileged elites, while his son drives around the town with an obscenely expensive sports car? Fits the profile of folks the police chief want to go after. The problem is that Bo is his boss and too powerful to take down. So the chief is on the run instead. Yeah, this is a really bad publicity.
