After dissing Ford in the Super Bowl advertisement for its Chevrolet pickup trucks, General Motors' head of marketing has now taken a dig at Chrysler and everyone else who makes full-size trucks in the United States.
During a web chat on Monday hosted by Jalopnik.com, GM Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer Joel Ewanik responded to a question about why it singled out Ford in the ad, which featured a group of Chevrolet drivers that survived the predicted 2012 Mayan Apocalypse while their Ford-driving friend Dave didnt make it.
Ewanik wrote The two big players are Ford and Chevy. This is like a presidential debate. We want to have it with the other strong candidate -- and we want to engage them and want them to engage us. That's why.

None of the Chevys were trouble free. My current Crown Vic has 155,000 on it, and not a single problem so far.
(The car is called the 'million mile car' by the cabbies, who typically drove them between 400 to 500,000 between rebuilds.)
What do you think about the government using your tax dollars to bail out GM, then handing the company to the unions to operate? And what has been your experience with GM products post-bail out?
We own Fords, GM, and Toyo’s. Love the Ford and Toyo. Will never buy another Government Motors again.
I plan on making my next car a Ford. And I will not ever, under any circumstances, buy a Government Motors (or Chrysler) car.
Does Joel Ewanik have a union background? He sounds like he comes from their ranks.
Seems to be it was Ford that Survived the Obama-depression unscathed.
It was GM and Chrysler that had to go stand in front of the Government cash kitchen to feed off of to make it thru. Regardless of what they say, they haven’t paid back huge amounts they were given from Daddy Government.
I hope Ford hits back hard after that SB commercial.

GM - will survive a world wide catastrophe just like the other rats and cockroaches.
I remember telling my father that when the Japanese car companies started making full size trucks, that would spell the end for the Detroit car makers. Toyota comes out with the Tundra, Nissan comes out with the Titan and the Detroit boys are declaring bankruptcy. I like the fact that Ford didn’t have to take my tax money to keep going, but they still have UAW building them. The UAW is part of THE GREAT DEMOCRAT MONEY MAKING MACHINE!
My brother is a lineman for a large southern electric utility.
His company made the mistake of purchasing GM trucks, and my brother has to put up with GM “quality”.
Of course, my brother recently purchased an F 150.
So do I. Ford has a great record of providing solid vehicles that last a long time with little trouble. GM simply does not.
I'm pleased to see that FReepers have decided to diss the 'bought-and-paid-for' 'Government Motors!'
LOL - I love it. (when I saw the name ‘DOLT’ on the car I burst out laughing.)
Yeah, they do. I wish Ford would move all its factories to RTW states, then their employees could 'opt out' - leaving the UAW with NOTHING!
Hope FORD 'gets a clue.'

It was not that Ford “came out” better from the recession that began after the 2008 financial crisis, it entered the recession in a better position than GM or Chrysler - in a position, fiancially, that helped it when the recession came; whereas GM and Chrysler’s profits and balance sheet were worse than Ford before and heading into 2008.
Too much praise in all this is NOT due Ford. Had they failed as much as GM and Chrysler to improve their profits and their balance sheet, heading into 2008, I don’t believe their executives would have been any less than GM or Chrysler to seek some kind of help from the government. They may have some executives that have served them better but I do not think they are any less crony-capitalist than any other major U.S. corporation, when desire or necessity makes rhem so inclined.
There's a reason virtually every police department in the country bought them. They were tanks -- brought down by the FMG (Federal Mileage Gestapo.) I've got my eye out for one. There are plenty of them owned by elderly drivers and well-cared for.
Very nice-looking to my increasingly older eyes, too.
But the reason it went into the recession in better shape was because management made the tough decisions a few years before, and so got ahead of the competitive curve. Frankly, I think it is more praiseworthy that they avoided the problems of the other automakers with smart management rather than simply surviving better after the fact.
This is an example of Toyota quality. I’d like to see a GM or Dodge stand up to what Jeremy and James do.

How much does GM still owe the U.S. Government (us)? I know they paid back part of the money...
