Josh Powell Tragedy: Son Said Mom Was In Trunk of Car, Lawyer Claims

The young sons of Susan and Josh Powell, who died with their father when he ignited an explosion in their Washington home, were beginning to verbalize that their mother was in the trunk of their father's car on the night that she disappeared in 2009, a lawyer for the missing woman's parents said.

Attorney Steve Downing told the Associated Press that Braden and Charles Powell, who were 2 and 4 at the time of Susan Powell's disappearance, were beginning to tell their grandparents details about the night that their father took them on a late-night camping trip during a blizzard, including the fact that their mother disappeared after leaving in the car with their father.

"They were beginning to verbalize more," Downing said. "The oldest boy talked about that they went camping and that mommy was in the trunk. Mom and dad got out of the car and mom disappeared."

I am 100% willing to bet that case workers and court appointed psychologists, planted these ideas in the boys minds.

Again, I say ‘the state’ and feminists triggered this whole scenario.

No secular authority out there will ever hold a couple together based on biblical teaching. One parent can lobby all they want on scriptural rational, to no avail. Not saying this is the case here.

I’m inclined to agree that the idea of Mommy in the trunk was probably suggested to the boy, if it only started coming out now.

I’m also inclined to think that any man who would blow his children up to shreds and cinders is likely to have killed their mother.

It has been reported that Susan Powell (Mormon) wanted her husband to become more solid in their faith. She also complained about Steve Powell - her father-in-law; who has been charged with porno crimes (to include stalking and photographing Susan, his daughter-in-law).

This is a very dysfunctional family.

As for the children being influenced by social workers - Susan’s parents fought for custody because of the Powell father and son’s behavior.

As for the possibility that Josh Powell had nothing to do with murdering his wife - HE JUST MURDERED HIS TWO YOUNG SONS!!!!

Josh Powell may have decided that he wasn't going to get away with his wife's murder...but instead of just killing himself by killing his sons he inflicts additional pain on his wife's parents.

They may never discover where his wife's body is now because he may have been the only one who knew.

Ah, your point makes perfect sense, especially when I consider the fact that he was willing to murder his two young sons.

Get your head examined. I bet you defend Paterno, too.

Yes, he did, and he could have just killed himself—but then, that would not have driven the spike into the hearts of his in-laws. Vicious, horrid pervert.

***They may never discover where his wife’s body is now because he may have been the only one who knew.***

When questioned by LE where he camped with the boys - IIRC he was very vague. Perhaps they can pinpoint the area and do another search. It was winter and freezing when she disappeared - perhaps similar conditions now.

Josh Powell’s father may be the only person who knows what happened - that is one strange father-son relationship.

Devastating for Susan’s parents and siblings. I cannot imagine a worse hell.

From all appearances this man murdered his wife, then murdered himself and his kids. I wouldn’t press the button on his execution unless I saw him go through a criminal trial with appropriate evidence, however, all signs point in one direction.

But I take testimony from witnesses of age 2 and 4 very lightly, particularly when it is years after the fact.

You can lead a child to say ANYTHING. We’ve seen it with such atrocities as the McMartin preschool case. It is too bad, because sometimes a kid IS spot on. But you have no way of knowing. They are highly suggestible.

So you take your toddlers out camping after midnight in subfreezing temps often, do you?

How did feminism and the state cause Susan’s disappearance (which as I see things is the actual, real life trigger for this whole scenario)?

But of course you’d want the boys home with dad. What could possibly go wrong there, what with granddad taking voyeur shots of his daughter in law, to add to his child porno collection, and dad himself, as we now know, completely ok with murdering his own children.

But yes, let’s lay the blame for this on the state and feminism, not on the jacka$$ mother$%#&@( who murdered his own children.

And when the “person of interest” then blows himself and the children away, how does that tend to sway your thinking? That they were “suggestible” or that dad was taking the only steps he could to conceal the truth?

I’m so angry about this. Those kids should have been taken away from that man right after his wife went missing and he told his pathetic story about camping. I just knew that sack of shit would do something else.

You have deposited the biggest load of horse manure I've ever seen posted on Free Republic. A coward who would murder his own 2 children is just as likely to have murdered his wife.

If he put his wife in the trunk of the car, I'm pretty sure forensic scientists could confirm it.

I disagree. I bet she was in the trunk and the dad buried her in the middle of the night while the boys were asleep in the tent.

Bodily traces in the trunk of her own family car wouldn’t prove anything unless there were considerable quantities of blood.

Her hairbrush could have been in there. Beach towel and bathing suit. Used napkins and tissues.

The boys did say early on that their father had taken them camping but nothing then about their mother being in the trunk.

I have been a willing-to-please child in a family war - that is why I think that the recent statements about the trunk were suggested to the little boy. Powell killing his children in this horrific and annihilating fashion is why I think he killed his wife.

Josh Powell was a rock hound when in Utah. He probably buried his wife where he dug for Topaz.

As I said in my post, all signs point in one direction - dad is a murderer.

A two and a half year old boy was telling the truth in this case when he kept saying “Mommy was in the rug”.
