The Navy says eight sailors have been discharged after a hazing incident aboard a San Diego-based amphibious assault ship.
Navy spokesman said Saturday the eight received general discharges following allegations they assaulted and choked a fellow sailor aboard the ship, the Bonhomme Richard, on Jan. 17, as part of an initiation rite. He said the assault was videotaped, and the victim treated for injuries they received.
The action follows recent congressional hearings on hazing in the military, including the case of Lance Cpl. Harry Lew, who shot himself in a foxhole in Afghanistan last year after he was beaten, forced to do repeated pushups and fed mouthfuls of sand.

Too bad it’s all gone. Working in the job I do now, most of the female officers that I run into now are arrogant little princesses who need some serious bulkhead counseling and are just positive that they’re going to retire in 20 years as a 4-star (and they’re as pissed as a cat in mop water when they don’t get an award quarterly and they’re not told every 5 minutes that they’re the command golden-girl). Ironically, they act just like the perfumed little princelings that a lot of the guys have become.
Seeing the service achievement medals that are being given away to anybody and their dog PCSing and the Bronze Stars being given away to anybody within 100 miles of a flying enemy bullet is but one of the many symptoms of the growing problem.
EMB - so true! I was in the Nav the end of the 70’s when women’s roles were being ramped up and saw it all. I got out after having a kid and supported hub to 0-6. Recently found out two fellow female Os made it to 0-6: one was secretly pregs while in USNA, the other would screw over a fellow female in a heart beat to get you out of the way.
But they weren’t much different than most of the guys who went up the ranks...I know some who are up there now who would pop your pooch if it got them another star...
I guess it happens in all aspects of life...I just don’t know how they live with themselves in the end. Just delusional it seems...
