“He [nobama] has basically declared war on the Catholic church.
“IMHO, there’s no “basically” about it. It is a frontal, all out assault!”
I agree it is an all out assault. I thought to myself, if these organizations were Muzzie, instead of Catholic, he and Sebilus NEVER would have done this.
The Admin even got to the Catholic priests in the military (separation of church and state only when it’s convenient for the Dims), their reasoning (excuse) seems to be in the last line):
Military Is Telling Catholic Chaplains What They Can And Can’t Say About the Obama Administration
Business Insider ^ | Feb 3, 2012 | Michael Brendan Dougherty
>snip
All the bishops in the country sent out a letter to be read in their parishes promising that the Church “cannot-and will not-comply with this unjust law.”
Even Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who is in charge of Catholic military chaplains sent out the same letter.
But after he did, the Army’s Office of the Chief of Chaplains sent out another communication forbidding Catholic priests to read the letter, in part because it seemed to encourage civil disobedience, and could be read as seditious against the Commander-in-Chief.
More than one Catholic chaplain who spoke to us off the record confirmed that many chaplains disobeyed this instruction and read the letter anyway.
SNIP
The letter also tries to clarify to priests that the Archbishop’s letter “concerns a moral, not a political issue.”
While it is true that soldiers do not have an unlimited right to free speech or political action, the military does not want to strain relations with the Catholic Church and its chaplains who provide services to many service members of all faiths.

Correct, I was referring to the "republican" mayor.
Should read:
We dont address each other as idiots on this thread.
Correct, I was referring to the "republican" mayor.
Not only is this true, but I'm not sure Free Republic will survive a Romney nomination. I believe JimRob has stated if that's the case he may even shut down the site.
What massacres will occur among FReepers then? I believe, since I will support Anyone but Obama, that my 14 years here will not be enough to save me....
I really wish the die-hards will calm down just a little. The World is not a ride from which we can just get off when it goes against us. It will move without us. If we get the least desirable candidate, it says as much about our own failure to prevail as the idea there's some vast conspiracy among Republicans. We have to convince other people we're right.
The fight for the Right is HARD work.
Bitterly caterwauling from the keyboard isn't. And other FReepers are NOT the enemy.
Stopping in (which I know I said I wouldn’t do) to cheer my city for their excellent Super Bowl preps! This has been a really amazing thing to see.
Done with private corporate money up front under a RINO (according to many here ) governor, Mitch Daniels, and a RINO mayor, Greg Ballard, former Marine logistics officer.
I am voting for whoever wins the nomination. I am not staying home, whoever it is. I am not concerned about the party, or the conservative movement. I am concerned about the country and my grandchildren’s future, and 4 more years of Obama will just about finish any hopes for that.
I have donated money to the candidate I prefer. And I suggest all of the people who are concerned about their preferred candidate do the same, instead of whining and carrying on about money.
Everyone have a nice day! I am drawing satisfaction from the amount of money central Indiana is taking from Alec Baldwin, Spike Lee, and Snoop Dog. :-)
Hi MM!
See my post # 144 above yours.
I agree 100%.
And I still miss Pukin Dog.
It was shameful to ban him.
The republic already has a fairly strong centralized/planned "marxist" (equality of outcome - crony capitalism) flavor to it. I am not convinced that collapse of the established federal order results in either outcome you pose, however.
Before there was a US of A, there were independent states, and those still exist, albeit weakened by an overbearing federal government that disrespects and disregards the Constitution that created it.
When the time of chaos comes due to the federal government being unable to deliver what it is promising, and that time will come, it is inevitable, social unrest is still under the hand of state and local governments. I hope and pray that at least some of the states come through stronger and more free. The American dream won't die, even as it is now being suppressed and undermined.
I don't think violence is inevitable - in case you took "chaos" to mean that. Collapse of the dollar, loss of international prestige, massive bankruptcies, etc. can all happen; and the state and local police powers will be brought to bear. The strength of a country lies in the character of its people and its natural resources.
If the country is to be a harbinger of collapse of Western civilization (and that too is possible), I think it'll happen over the span of generations; much like it took a span of a few generations to transform the federal government into the massive, irresponsible an unresponsive entity that it is now.
Let's suppose you withhold your vote for President, but help elect more T Partiers. Now suppose that many others agree and we elect more T Partiers to Congress --so many that current RINO leadership is dethroned--BUT Obama retains the WH. You will have thrown away a gold opportunity to correct this mess. Won't you ask; what could have been ? I will. Please direct your anger to helping expand the T Party, rather than holding the rest of us back.
Please.
As they say, marketing is everything. I create a phrase that catches the eye, attach a link and hit tweet. I use hash tags a lot to reach people reading tweets on the hash tag lists.
Yes you get losers and spam monkeys (porn)who want to follow you, but blocking is very easy.
I love the easy access to media. Many people tweet comments within seconds of them spewing their BS. That is very helpful in educating others on the bias of the media.
If you are on Twitter and want to connect with me, send me a FR mail.
Do you know where he went? I still miss him as well. I have found some refugees on Twitter, Ace of Spades, and a private site.
It’s just a shame that people got kicked off the site for expressing different opinions.
But that’s not the question anymore, my FRiend.
If nothing changes, Romney wins.
What then?
It becomes academic, a simple logical exercise.
We must vote for the good of the country; Obama is worse than Romney.
Did I tell you how I was a big Reagan supporter in 1976 and I was so enraged that Ford won I voted for Carter?
In hindsight I was very well aware that Ford would have been far better that Carter, but I let my bitternes and emotions rule my logic.
A second Obama term would be expotentially worse than a second Carter term.
Unhappy about the outcome of the Republican primaries? Yes. Suicidal and petulant? No.
One other thing that people who threaten to stay home need to take into account: leaving Obama in office means leaving him in charge of the military and foreign policy.
This is a terrible thing. I don’t care WHO the GOP nominee is, that person would not be bowing to dictators, cutting the military to the bone, propping up the jihadist movement, and undermining Israel.
Staying home on election day supports all of those things.
Now I must head to noon mass.
I wish everyone a great day in our glorious country. Bless you all.
Yes, that's why they had my ear...until Zsa Zsa began to blither.
Maybe I should have gone to mute until she was done annoying everyone.
You are correct that your arguments and hypothetical futures are not persuasive to me; as I am sure mine is not persuasive to you.
I no-vote Snowe, as well.
-- Please direct your anger to helping expand the T Party, rather than holding the rest of us back. --
I do need to work on my delivery; but in the end, most of us (all of us, you, me, the DEM partisans, etc.) are entrenched, and chatting here is primarily entertainment.
I do support those who run for political office, that I find to be honest enough and generally aligned with my view of how a government ought to operate. I'm not holding you back from anything. You are free too.
Newt was brilliant this morning opposing DNC Dave at every turn. Someone in his campaign obviously watches FR.HE did a great job and DNC Dave backed off big time. Just shows any time any of us are not afraid to go up against a DBM type they will cave! Just takes someone with huge cajones.
But as a candidate carrying the conservative banner he is really about as hopeless as I could imagine it getting. The guy is a pathological 60 percent unfavorable and it’s never gonna change. Santorum might actually have a chance if Newt went back to the pasture or the sofa or wherever he was this time last year when no one IN THEIR RIGHT MIND could have imagined he’d be the “conservative” champion in 2012. (I also think Santorum would clean Newt’s clock if Romney were to drop out.)
Well, too bad for us. No real challenger in play and Mittens sure to get the nomination and then lose to the Comrade in Nov. And then it’s on to 2016 and Christie or some other loser and so on and so forth.
This is no place for any of us to be.
in spades, MM....everything you suggest which could spell doom rather quickly with a nucleur war for example, but I first thing Supreme Court judges, which also spells doom but makes it a slow painstaking death
I believe you own an apology to Eva Gabor for comparing her to such an airhead.
I respect those on this thread that say they will never vote for Romney (there are quite a few others on FR as well). That said, I tend to agree with you. I hope that Newt can pull it off. Do I like Romney - no. If Romney is the nominee, I’ll have a hard time voting for him, but will probably do so (still have several months to make a firm decision) - I only hope that he has a really articulate & conservative VP and we get more Tea Party types in the House & Senate and have a majority in both.
Some think Romney will be almost as bad as Obama and/or want to teach the GOP a lesson. I have a hard time seeing how almost anyone, including Romney, could be anywhere near as bad for our country as Obama has been. As I said in another post, if Obama wins things are going to get worse as IMHO he’ll think he has a mandate to push ahead with his EOs, etc. Romney may have his faults, but I don’t believe that he and his wife hate our country.
Here’s the last paragraph in an article by Ron Lipsman on American Thinker (I disagree with him that Romney is the best one and, unlike him, I think Newt would lead a conservative counter revolution):
“The point is: whoever is the ultimate nominee among the remaining four, even if he wins in the fall, that person will not lead the counter-revolution conservatives so desperately seek. But the potential damage to our country from a second Obama term is incalculable. Thus the prime goal must be to defeat Obama. Given the choices, Romney seems to have the best chance to do so. Perhaps we can tread water with Romney while a true Reagan successor emerges further down the pike.”
What was it that Reagan said? I didn’t leave the republican party ... the republican party left me.
They don’t need me. or you. or anyone. They can fight this battle with their marvelous ideas ... like ... um ... what are their ideas again? Oh yeah, they don’t have any. Beat Obama - go team!
