It has been many months since I’ve posted at Free Republic, though I am a longstanding member. There have been some astonishingly good posters here over the years and I have gotten extraordinary insights from following every day. I am grateful to have this resource, even if at this point the threads have gone in directions where my posts would probably not be helpful or well-received. So I write nothing.

I consider myself a conservative on most things, but I am sure that the folks who post here would disagree.

I want to write my piece and then exit. If I decline to engage in further commentary, pls forgive me. I promise to read everything even if I think it’s best not to engage further. I love this site and think that’s best. Here goes ...

I think Coulter is great. There is a reason that the Republican establishment has come out against Gingrich, and as I read things (I read a lot), he can be a very difficult personality. And there is some basis for Coulter to assert that he’s not as conservative as he represents himself to be. Other people in positions to know have corroborated this.

Those who post here may not agree or they may find all of this something they can discount, and that’s fine. But writing all of this nasty stuff about Coulter is just downright counterproductive. She’s a conservative through and through.

As for Romney, I am pretty sure that his basic instincts are quite conservative, which is what I need from a candidate. I am voting for him in my primary. He is far, far, far too inclined to move off of those principles to cut a deal; and one of his principles is to be bipartisan even when that means trading off other values. This is not good. I have no desire to defend him on these scores. But still, I think Coulter is right when she asserts that he’s intrinsically conservative. Unlike our last nominee, John McCain, he does not seem to me to go out of his way to stick his thumb in the eye of every conservative at every opportunity.

And I believe that after November Republicans will have majorities in both the House and the Senate, and that a President Romney will not have to compromise much on his conservative leanings. I believe he will get things done, and that what he gets done will mostly please conservatives.

This is where I pin my hope and my optimism.

As I read this web site, I see overwhelming cynicism and despair. We live in a great country. We have faced far worse than this. When the primaries end, I believe that Romney will be the party’s nominee and I pray that those who would have preferred another candidate can get behind him. Because we can not endure another four years of President Obama.

Please, tread a bit more lightly. Ann Coulter and Mitt Romney are good people and friends of the conservative movement. They do not either of them deserve the derision that they receive here.

Get a grip. Ann Coulter just wrote a piece defending RomneyCare. She is a complete hypocrite and an elitist loudmouth idiot to boot.

So let me throw ou a few Conservative principles and you explain to me why they are not:

Conservatives believe in the Individual Liberty; Romney believes in the Individual Mandate.

Conservatives believe in empowering the individual; Romney believes in the welfare state.

Conservatives believe that everyone shoud have equal opportunity; Romney engages in Class Warfare and sounds like he is working from Obama’s talking points in his “focus on the middle class” nonsense.

Conservatives believe in the free market; Romney is a supporter of auto-increasing the minimum wage, indexed to inflation (guess he is eyeing that union vote!!)

Lets not even get into his on the record defense of liberalism during his runs for state office in Mass or his support for free auto insurance for welfare receipients and lovely track record of appointing “conservative” justices while Governor of Mass (LOL).

Romney is a POS RINO through and through, and Ann Coulter is nothing more then an obnoxious loud mouth shrill. She is useless (if not damaging) to the Conservative movement.

Romney doesn’t have a Conservative bone in his body. He is a flip flopping fraud, and IF he wins the nomination I will vote 3rd party or write in. I will NEVER vote for that pandering clown for President. No way!! No how!!

It all boils down to whether you believe today’s Romney or yesterday’s Romney.

At least the Newt of today is closer to the Newt of yesterday.

Romney will repeal Obamacare, yet he was flattered that his state’s Romneycare was the model for Obamacare. He then states that he will repeal parts of Obamacare.

If you listen to a liar long enough, he will tell you what he is. I will not listen to the sales pitch, but I will judge a candidate by their actions. They speak the truth.

Tread lightly, indeed! There comes a time when it is better to stomp with hobnailed steel-toed boots- and that time is now. Coulter and Romney have supported non-conservative things in substantive ways, especially in Myth’s case. Look at how he governed- he offered no resistance to gay marriage, he created Romneycare, signed an “assault weapons ban”, and that’s supposed to be conservative? Or Ann being on the board of GOProud and telling us to support a man who for all intents and purposes is a Democrat? You might have a case for saying they don’t deserve the derision they are getting- because they actually deserve much more.

As for Romney, I am pretty sure that his basic instincts are quite conservative,LOL how can you write that with a straight face. So, how much is the fraudulent mitt paying you?

Even though mitt will not get the nomination, if he did it would be a joy to watch him go down in an historic landslide defeat. I would be very happy to see him humiliated and crushed.

At least Obama is honest enough to not lie and pretend to run as a Conservative.

Why would any Conservative vote for a vile man who has his had his minions out since 2008 destroy any and all Conservatives who stand in his way?

I will not vote for the "equal of evils." see my tagline.

“Ann Coulter and Mitt Romney are good people and friends of the conservative movement. They do not either of them deserve the derision that they receive here.”

Bishop Willard Romney and his oral scullion are neither good nor are they friends of conservatism. I do agree they do not deserve the level of derision they receive here. They deserve much worse.

I have reviewed your post and this meter is to serve as immediate feedback of your posted words.

Thank you for you opinion. You are just completely wrong, is all. So is Romney; So is Coulter. They are NOT Conservative, and what "friends" are they of the Conservative movement? They score highest on this B.S. Meter. Sorry that you can't recognize that fact.
