Earlier this week, the Rick Santorum campaign reminded potential voters that Newt Gingrich has made more than one deal with liberals. Today, his campaign released a new minute-long satellite radio ad that pinpoints the problem with Gingrichs fanciful idea to build a moon base: We simply cant afford it.
Reckless spending has led to a 15 trillion dollar national debt And what does Newt Gingrich suggest? Spending half a trillion dollar on a moon colony, the ad says.
Gingrich received criticism from the comment he made last week in Florida, and Team Santorum uses it in the new spot to paint the former Pennsylvania senator as the true conservative in the 2012 race.
Rick Santorum, he doesnt just talk a good conservative game, he lives it, ...
The spot also features Gingrich saying, When we have 13,000 Americans living on the moon, they can petition to become a state. That kind of idea makes for great audio, but the ads broader point that Santorum remains relentlessly focused on the debt would be as true if the spot tackled the two candidates plans for entitlement reform rather than Gingrichs more extreme moon proposal.

OK this is bizarre.
usually the fornt runner comes under attack as the people behind want to become first unless there is another motive.
Why is Santorum attacking the guy in second and not going after Romney , the man who passed Romneycare which Santorum states he wants to defeat.
Hey Rick you are supposed to go after Romney in first place and looks to win NV not go after the second place guy to get second unless you have other ideas
Looks more and more like someone running for the VP slot on the Romney ticket.... WHAT A JOKE!
Sorry but Newt’s moon colony is idiotic pandering at best.
Really? Your record is big government - Ricky.
Santorum would have ridiculed Kennedy and Romney would have fired him. Hmmm.
One average-sized near earth asteroid contains enough platinum group metals to equal the entire world’s gross annual product. That means trillions of dollars each!
There are international conglomerates ready and willing to take the risks and launch into space today, just to reap the potential wealth that can be had by mining, smelting and manufacturing in space.
Five hundred years ago, the world’s two super powers were China’s Ming Dynasty and the Ottoman Empire (in present-day Turkey), and Spain had just begun sending ships to the Western Hemisphere.
If someone had predicted that in the future there would be untold wealth for over a billion people inititated by an industrial revolution begun in rustic Europe and sustained by what then was a wilderness in North America, that person would have been considered insane.
Romney and Santorum have no vision for the future. They are only in the race to benefit themselves.
Barak Odumbass could have put 10 colonies on the moon with what he has wasted SO FAR!
For $5 Trillion we could have revamped out entire electric grid
fixed all our roads and bridges
WHAT THE HELL DID HE DO WITH ALL THAT MONEY?????
Ill bet you would have been apoplectic had you been old enough when Kennedy said we would go to the moon when we hadnt even been in space yet.
Santorum has had his share of earmarks and wasteful spending. The man is only a SOCIAL conservative.
I want to have the option of moving to the moon.
:)
I agree.
In my opinon, the “moon colony” comment was far and away the weirdest and wackiest thing he has said during the campaign.
Not so sure. Nasa is about the only thing that we pay taxes for that we can be proud of achieving. All the rest is simply distribution of income.
Please expand. Cause I think if we don’t do it then the Chinese and Russians will. In that case we will be forever earth-bound. I am not talking of 13,000. But we need to establish some presence. FCOL, we have been there already.
Encouraging a private sector consortium to colonize the moon because of economic advantages isn’t pandering, is it?
CC You want Santorum or so it seems this past couple of weeks but t be asking you an honest question, do you seriously think Santorum attacking a second place guy Newt but not the first guy Romney makes any sense?
Knowing he has not won one county or even a voting group in the last 3 states he has ran in and looks again to come third again, honestly does it make sense to attack a second positioned person and not the first unless there is something going on?
Of course we will not know for sure until he actually drops out and then we will see if he endorses Romney and that means he endorses Romneycare when he said he is against it.
Santorum is a political whore, mascarading as a "conservative".
No moon pies for you, Santorum.
