MEXICO CITY -- The U.S. Embassy in Mexico says two Americans have been slain outside the northern industrial city of Monterrey, an area plagued by drug violence.
It identifies them as John and Wanda Casias.
The embassy says the former Amarillo, Texas, couple's family has been notified and it is providing relatives consular services.
The embassy hasn't confirmed reports that the killing happened Tuesday. Its statement provides no other details.
Valerie Alirez in Greeley, Colo., is John Casias' eldest child.
She says he and his wife were found dead Tuesday in Santiago, Nuevo Leon, by one of her brothers.

Awful. RIP.
Might as well be neighbors with Afghanistan.
These two are friends of a friend in Church, here is his e-
I saw this on Facebook this morning. I knew this man, though not very well.
Early this afternoon Shawn Casias was trying to call his mother. He was in Mexico on business which he conducted there on a regular basis. Since he could not reach Wanda, he drove to their home and found her dead on the floor. It appears that robbery was the motive as two televisions, a safe, and one of their vehicles was missing, as was John. There was some hope that he was still alive, perhaps being held for ransom. However, the body of John Casias was found about one hour ago along side of a road. He was dead when he was found.
This information was provided to me by Pastor Dick Webster who knows the Casias family well.
The Casias’s were the first GIBM Missionaries. They have been in Mexico for nearly thirty years.
Please remember to pray now for the ten children of John and Wanda Casias.
We will post more information as the facts surface.

For those who may no know Monterrey is one of the “nice” areas in Mexico - which just means things are as bad as we though they were...
Please remember that white, Tea Party right wingers are much more dangerous../s
Here’s their website and photos: http://www.casias.org/
So sad. I thought it was probably Shawn that found them. I know him and one other of the siblings and am familiar with their business in Mexico. I wasn’t aware of the parents’ missionary vocation.
Very sad news. My daughter and her husband knew this wonderful couple very well as they attended their church when they lived in Monterrey a few years back.
RIP.
