It is not over. In 1976 Reagan didn't start winning till N. Carolina. He came within a handful of votes of winning. Newt has already won S. Carolina. He needs to get back on message. Economic growth, reduce debt, anti Obama.
He spent too much time on defense. Let the Super Pacs handle the negative stuff. When unfairly accused, explain it once quickly, then laugh it off kinda like Reagan, there they go again with the inaccurate statements, and pivot to get to the message.
I think the most important thing this election is to defeat Obama, whoever the nominee will be. AND... gain seats in the House and win the Senate.
I’d prefer a moderate Republican in the White House to Marxist Democrat.
But you are completely and absolutely correct. Newt has to get back on message and stop talking about space colonies and whining - people don't like that. This is what everybody was talking about when they said Newt is undisciplined. He ignores the advice of his advisers. Case in point - on the night of the SC victory, he did not use the speech written for him; instead he talked off the cuff and blew a chance to communicate what he is about and what he believes in, in a compelling manner. Everyone was watching him that night, particularly Floridians and he wasted that opportunity.
Newt is not a good messenger - space colonies???? when he should be pounding Romney on Romneycare and Obamacare incessantly and explaining why they are bad even if he is a broken record and talking about jobs and why he can get the economy going. Pound 2 or 3 major things or themes and that's it. Nothing more.
It's over. I support Newt, but he's no Ronald Reagan. Besides, Reagan had a superb inner circle. Newt doesn't even have a 'circle', let alone an 'inner' one, and a good one. His staff is terrible, and he's getting horrible advice on campaign ads. It's over, unless Sarah Palin gets in with the full support of the Tea Party organizations.
