Santorum up in Colorado, Nevada with anti-Gingrich commercial
The Hill ^ | 1-31-12 | Sink

Fresh on the heels of announcing January fundraising numbers in excess of $4 million, Rick Santorum's presidential campaign announced a new television ad that will begin airing Tuesday in Colorado and Nevada.

The ad attacks Newt Gingrich as being too liberal for the GOP nomination by arguing that he shares many policy positions with President Obama and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

"All three supported radical cap and trade legislation that would destroy American jobs and drive up energy costs. All three supported giving illegal aliens some form of amnesty. All three sported the government health mandates which take away our freedom and is the core of ObamaCare. And all three of these politician's supported the Wall Street bailouts that was a slap in the face to the Tea Party," the narrator says.

It goes on to refer to the trio as "cap and trade loving, bailout supporting, soft on immigration, big-government mandating politicians."

The commercial is a sharp indictment of Gingrich, with whom Santorum has split more conservative voters in early primary contests. But the ad does little to attack Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican front-runner who is expected to lead in Nevada polling.

"Rick Santorum for President: he doesn't just talk a good conservative game, he lives it," the narrator says.

Nevada will caucus Feb. 4, with Colorado voters gathering 3 days later at caucus sites across that state.

First, Santorum was the choice of Dr James Dobson of Colarado. He swayed the other evanglical leaders to support Santorum. I think Santorum believes he has great support in Colarado and so MUST win in Colorado.

Personally, I supported Santorum in Iowa because Gingrich couldn’t win and encouraged others to deny Romney with the same kind of vote. I supported Santorum in New Hampshire for the same reason, although he, too, couldn’t touch Romney in one of Romney’s many home states.

I supported in Gingrich in S Carolina, because of the strategy of denying Romney. My hope is to deny Romney any delegate I can.

I will support Santorum in Pennsylvania and Gingrich in Georgia. The strategy is to deny Romney.

If nothing else, if my guy can’t win, then I want the Republican convention to select the candidate to run against Obama. If the GOP-E comes up with a liberal, then I’ll not be surprised. On the other hand, they will have clearly and irrevocably spoken.

So far as Santorum’s attacks in Colorado against Gingrich: he has said exactly the same thing in debates. They all sound like policy differences to me, so I don’t see them as personal attacks.

As far as I’m concerned, he has proven he is not a leader. We have a very self-centered President now. And Santorum has shown himself to be very selfish. He is willing to throw the race and get Obama re-elected all because he has a huge ego?

Rush told us today that the second choice for most Santorum voters, is Mitt Romney.

Santorum is angling for a job in the Romney administration. So sad Santorum is just a loser all around. He just can’t understand why

Ron Paul voted for fags in the military. If Toomey did shame on him. But like I said he was PRO-LIFE, and Santorum voted for Alen Splincter, who’s nothing in the world but a pro-abortion democrat in republican clothing, who finally switched to back to his old party. And by the way, I have been called alot of things, but liberal aint one of them.

How can someone who is supporting Santorum (who is mostly conservative) then go to Romney who is a stink’n liberal.
That makes no sense.

They're Democrats before they're Catholic. They're cultural Catholics. Most Catholics since the early '70s have been poorly catechized.

The first time that Catholics ever voted Republican was in 1972, some polls say they went for Eisenhower's reelection in 1956, but most no.

I think the Catholic vote has gotten marginally better, not worse.

I’ve wrestled with the option of not voting in the presidential election if the Reps ram Romney down our throats. I’ve decided though, I’ll vote for Obama for no other reason than he can only serve one term and will be a lame duck. I’ll not vote for another rino, period

As Laura Ingraham said (paraphrasing), the politicians will criticize the opponent who might be closest to their ideology, because they want to win.

Politics is not for the faint of heart.

I wonder how you would feel if Santorum, or any of the candidates, wanted Gingrich to quit. Take a deep breath, there’s a long way to go.

“”Mr. Santorum challenged Mr. Romney on his claim that Romneycare is
‘very different than Obamacare,’
citing a new study that lists key features the two plans have in common,
including the Medicaid expansion, an employer mandate and the individual mandate.
The study is from the liberal Families USA, which credits John McDonough and explains he
‘was deeply involved’
in developing both Romneycare and Obamacare.”’

Still think Santorum is trying to win favor with Romney?

Think again.

I believe that is Rush’s second choice.

I don;t have a second choice. Right now for me It’s Gingrich or just vote in the local election and let the Republican leadership hang themselves. and me with them.

I won’t be voting for Romney the way things stand now.

Santorum should save his money and use it on something he has a chance of winning, like a House seat.

He’s not real popular in his state, does he have enough support in his district?

"Mark Levin is bashing Romney big time for his character assassination of Newt in Fla. and the percentage of negative ads, not to mention the chiding laughter mocking Gingrich after feeling he trounced him. Levin said Reagan never would have acted that way. Mark is also talking about how they made fun of Newts moon idea but Romneycare is even more of a loon idea."

You forgot to mention that he said he would vote for Santorum. It's possible that many conservatives DID hear what he said & they DID!!

I think Romney is Rush’s first choice, that is why, with voting going on, he was telling Florida that Santorum voters, and Perry voters don’t like Newt, and will go to Romney.

Santorum is serving Romney in this race. Santorum is also serving as the beard for any Republican (or Glenn Beck) that wants to assist Romney, yet maintain that he is not a Romney guy

Because Santorum is quite the liberal stinkpot, that's why. The only thing is that he says it's G-d's will... and that is enough for our retarded electorate in the Republican party.

How so, you ask? Why, just Santorum's own words, when he didn't need to say what he thought the electorate wanted to hear. Read below and tell me how 'conservative' this socialist pig really is.

---

Santorum, from 2008:

This whole idea of personal autonomy, well I don’t think most conservatives hold that point of view. Some do. They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. You know, people should do whatever they want. Well, that is not how traditional conservatives view the world and I think most conservatives understand that individuals can’t go it alone.

And directly from his book 'It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good'...

What was my vision? I came to the uncomfortable realization that conservatives were not only reluctant to spend government dollars on the poor, they hadn’t even thought much about what might work better. I often describe my conservative colleagues during this time as simply ‘cheap liberals.’ My own economically modest personal background and my faith had taught me to care for those who are less fortunate, but I too had not yet given much thought to the proper role of government in this mission.

...and...

I suspect some will dismiss my ideas as just an extended version of ‘compassionate conservatism.’ Some will reject what I have said as a kind of ‘Big Government Conservatism.’ Some will say that what I’ve tried to argue isn’t conservatism at all. But I believe what I’ve been presenting is the genuine conservatism our Founders envisioned. One that fosters the opportunity for all Americans to live as we are called to live, in selfless families that contribute to the general welfare, the common good.

My 2nd choice is Gingrich. Actually I would be very happy with Gingrich, but will be extraordinarily happy with Santorum.
