Back in May 2009, during the controversy over Notre Dame’s decision to have President Obama as their commencement speaker and honorary degree recipient, I gave a short statement to the Boston Herald: “My favorite grandpa, Clem James Sheeran, was Catholic. Irish to the core, his favorite place (other than church) was Notre Dame. I can’t imagine what he would think as the university recognizes someone who contradicts the core values of the Catholic faith by promoting an anti-life agenda.”
In his latest Washington Post column, Michael Gerson writes about the Obama administration’s war on Catholic institutions with President Obama's decision to strip conscience protections from Catholic universities, hospitals and charities.
As Gershon points out, the timing of Obama's most recent slap won't go unnoticed by the faithful: "In politics, the timing is often the message. On Jan. 20 — three days before the annual March for Life — the Obama administration announced its final decision that Catholic universities, hospitals and charities will be compelled to pay for health insurance that covers sterilization, contraceptives and abortifacients. Preparing for the march, Catholic students gathered for Mass at Verizon Center. The faithful held vigil at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Knights of Columbus and bishops arrived to trudge in the cold along the Mall. All came to Washington in time for their mocking.”
And in this we see how the faithful at Notre Dame got snookered and how Obama has shamefully repaid their faith in him:

Nice article by Sarah! I will never forget those obama/ jenkins days when many of us tried to stop the appearance of the scumbag. I will never forget how jenkins treated those protesters by allowing them to wallow in jail. I am glad Sarah brought this to the forefront again.

Many of the so-called “faithful” at Notre Dame are not faithful at all. The French of ND are comprised of many intellectually lazy progressive Catholics who are sadly confused. They have gotten what they paid for in Obama, and their football team stinks. FIGHT ON!
I love my Sarah, but Notre Dame has no one to blame but themselves.
THEY should be ashamed of themselves for having an atheist/muzzie speaking at their school......which only adds fuel to the demons fire.
Obama and his crew are indeed statists and totalitarians - but they are also spineless political creatures, who only dare to do what they think they can get away with.
The Bishops and every other Catholic organization should tell the world loudly they will ignore HHS, and dare Obama to do his worst. He WILL back down.

Their bishop should have “de-certified” Notre Dame when they insisted on having the Freak Show there, and if he wouldn’t Rome should have replaced the bishop.
The Kenyan Pirate can use photos of his ND stint in campaign literature, and many “Catholics” will feel A-OK voting for him (again). If money influenced their decision, I’m glad it wasn’t mine; as long as I’m buying groceries with a credit card, I don’t have anything to give to my parish - they’re doing just fine without it.
If ND so desired, they could take back the honorary degree.

For years the Catholic hierarchy has pretended Catholicism was compatible with Democrat politics; it is an absolute disgrace. They think they’ll lecture the Catholic laiety about Mass attendance while they’re in bed with the killers of babies - good luck with that.
Was it ND that covered a sacred Catholic symbol which would have otherwise been the backdrop for the speech the Criminal_Fraud-in-chief condescendingly give to the backsliding assemblage ???

I remember the ruckus raised about covering the cross, and I remember the ruckus raised about speaking at ND, but I don’t recall if they were one & the same.
Clergy involved in either case should be sent to the most remote mission outposts to remember what the priesthood is about.
