Romney avoids mentioning it, but [Joseph] Smith ran for president in 1844 as an independent commander in chief of an army of God advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government in favor of a Mormon-ruled theocracy. Challenging Democrat James Polk and Whig Henry Clay, Smith prophesied that if the U.S. Congress did not accede to his demands that they shall be broken up as a government and God shall damn them. Smith viewed capturing the presidency as part of the mission of the church. He had predicted the emergence of the one Mighty and Strong a leader who would set in order the house of God and became the first of many prominent Mormon men to claim the mantle.
Smiths insertion of religion into politics and his call for a theodemocracy where God and people hold the power to conduct the affairs of men in righteous matters created a sensation and drew hostility from the outside world. But his candidacy was cut short when he was shot to death by an anti-Mormon vigilante mob. Out of Smiths national political ambitions grew what would become known in Mormon circles as the White Horse Prophecy a belief ingrained in Mormon culture and passed down through generations by church leaders that the day would come when the U.S. Constitution would hang like a thread as fine as a silk fiber and the Mormon priesthood would save it.
Romney is the product of this culture. At BYU, he was idolized by fellow students and referred to, only half jokingly, as the One Mighty and Strong. He was the alpha male in the rarefied Cougar pack, according to Michael D. Moody, a BYU classmate and fellow member of the group...

This time it is different, this really is the left of the GOP going in for the kill, remember that they gave up that Republican Senate seat in Alaska by endorsing the Independent over the Republican, this time we are all in it for keeps.
I will not be force fed Mitt Romney.
I stand entirely by my position. I’ve read enough about Mormonism on FR to know that it is a bogus man made religion with a very odd structure, set of beliefs and such structure and beliefs influence its members. I’m not saying all Mormons are bad etc, but if a Mormon is running for President, his religious beliefs and membership is fair game for debate. Just as if a Scientologist or Muslim were running.
The Mormons are the Chosen People. And the time is now for a Mormon leader to usher in the second coming of Christ and install the political Kingdom of God in Washington, D.C.
You have got to be kidding me...
So the way I read it,
...you're going to engage in wasted vote syndrome (vote for a loser)...
...shred your conscience by voting for a liberal RINO whose credentials are solidly pro-abortion...
...and forever convey to the establishment GOP that they can FOREVER send you liberal RINOs to vote for because you have a built-in philosophy that if the anti-Christ is the Democratic opponent, well, hey, if the Establishment wants to run a reincarnated Hitler, hey, that's at least better than the anti-Christ...
Im less afraid of Mormonism than I am Obama.
Don't we Christians take our cultural cue from a certain "Lord" named Jesus Christ? Who are we to follow when it comes to setting cultural priorities?
Here's Jesus:
"I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him." (Luke 12:4-5)
So does Jesus say, "fear the socialist Democratic leaders?" (No)
Instead, does He say to exercise fear of the One who has authority to cast somebody into hell? (Yes)
So, indeed, our "fear" is on behalf of those who are placing their eternal spiritual lives at risk.
Romney is Obama the wolf in a RINO costume...
Obama is...well, Obama
Until the cronyism is scrubbed there will always be an Establishment. But not voting Republican is not the answer.
This is quite an informative post I just read. Thanks for all the information.
While if someone was running for president who was a fill in the blank it would be fair game as well.
ANYTHING about ANYone is FAIR GAME.
One may discuss rationally and thoughtfully or rant, rave and mock.
One can remain above the fray or dive in to splash the muck around.
When it's all said and done, one goes into the booth and DOES THEIR DUTY to select someone that THEY think will do the job; warts, scars, halo and all.
Then we need to PURGE the 'left' from the ranks of Republicans.
How will we do that?
Do they still PREACH this kinda stuff?
It’s as though the ‘modern’ Christian Church has removed parts of the Bible MUCH better than any MORMON has done!
REPENT Preachers; and return to your first love!!!
VERY indeed!
Welcome aboard and hold on tight! ;^)
I don’t recall ever seeing anything like we have seen in the last three years since Governor Palin arrived, this time the left side of the GOP is in full out war, even giving up elections and a Senate seat to block us.
The key for this election is to refuse to vote for Mitt Romney.
Romney's father George was governor of Michigan during a turbulent period in race relations, including the infamous 1967 Detroit riot. Though a Mormon, he was never considered to be a racist by any "mainstream" critics.
BTW, one of your quotes in post # 91 doesn't belong with the others: the quote from Ezra Taft Benson (Eisenhower's Secretary of Agriculture) is not racist.
Right now to “purge” the portion of the party that is beating us looks pretty tough, strenghening and enlarging the tea party, pushing Newt Gingrich in the primary while weakening Romney, and supporting Governor Palin all seem like immediate goals.
“So, if Romney becomes President, he converts the entire country to Mormonism? Just like he did to the State of Massachusetts?”
MA was just a way for Mitt to get the experience so that he could run for president with a nice liberal RINO resume.
I agree. And pretending some “stuff” is off limits is exactly why 0bomba got elected. Everything was off limits with him!
Pro-life, pro-choice. Heavy arguments on both sides but for Romney they are just tools to get elected to pursue a more radical agenda.
Romney is an easy target and is totally out of touch with the American people.
A few weeks ago, I was talking to a friend and told him about the White Horse Prophesy which he had never heard. He sat there in disbelief, just shaking his head. As he got up to leave my office, he looked at me and said:
"All I can say to that is '_____ you, Mitt Romney and the White Horse you rode in on.'"
Although I'm not usually humored by profanity, it made me chuckle all afternoon.
LOL...Crude talk indeed. My delicate ears are not used to language like “_____ you” or even just the word “_____”;-)
