The establishment is fighting back, alright.

This has not received a lot of national attention, but the Republican legislature in Florida is about to push through a plan which puts Allen West at serious risk, and the person leading the effort is one of Mitt Romney’s spokemen. As reported by The Shark Tank:

GO NEWT!
GO FREE REPUBLIC!!!
Newt Gingrich @ The Villages in Florida Sunday January 29 2012
In 1980 we were involved in a campaign like this and it was clear that we needed a conservative that was a long way from Jimmy Carter in order to win because you had to show the difference.
And I would argue, we tried a moderate in 1996 and we couldn’t show the difference.
We tried a moderate in 2008 and we couldn’t show the difference.
If we are going to beat Obama, he’s going to have a Billion dollars and almost all of it will be used negatively because he doesn’t have any posistive record to run on.
So he’s gone from yes-we-can to why-we-couldn’t as his theme. So we need to have someone that can show a sharp distinction.
ObamaCare and RomneyCare are about this far apart (shows about one inch.) you can’t make the difference.
Where we are as Conservatives is about this far apart. Obama will not able to hide from the difference...

We are clearly at war in our party.

Michael Corleone: How bad do you think it's gonna be?

Clemenza: Pretty $%^&# bad. Probably all the other Families will line up against us. That's all right. These things gotta happen every five years or so, ten years. Helps to get rid of the bad blood. Been ten years since the last one. You know, you gotta stop them at the beginning. Like they should have stopped Hitler at Munich, they should never let him get away with that, they was just asking for trouble.

Hey Mr.

True enough.

It seems the nubich couldn’t answer my question. Probably voted RAT and how has “buyer’s remorse”. That would explain the RAT-manners.

Guess it doesn’t know how the TEApublicans took over the Maine GOP convention and crafted the party plank.

Guess it doesn’t know that the Maine Rs took back the whole enchilada last election for the first time in 40 years.

Guess it doesn’t think nor get out much.

Has Congressman West endorsed Gingrich? If not, why not? Pull the trigger and take the fight to this bunch of smug thugs.

Well, equating with not voting for Romney if he’s the nominee or any other RINO as somehow voting for Obama, that is classic RINO speak.

It is that attitude of “I’ll vote for him anyway or whoever the GOP nominee is” that the GOP establishment is counting on, and why they keep pushing RINOs on us.

Conservatives should stand up and say “NO” and that includes not voting for a RINO, especially a pos like Romney, under any circumstances.

2008 my vote was for Palin, not McCain, Romney or any RINO will never get my vote ever, regardless of their VP pick.

Way to make ASSumptions about someone you don’t know, jerk.

You’re the idiot who equated not voting for Romney with voting for Obama.

You can keep it. A complete craphole of a state, full of nutjobs. Must be something in the saltwater.

A fact only to you and other unprincipled “it’s-all-about-winning-and-nothing-else” types.

If Romney gets the nomination, Obama wins by default.

Romney’s policies are exactly the same as Obama’s, so even if Romney gets elected, which I highly doubt, he will be just as bad, if not worse.

Like I said, in a Romney vs. Obama scenario, the Left wins, either way.

Voting for Romney would be the same as voting for Obama, not the other way around.

Romney and his dwarfs are liberal termites. The GOP is infested. The GOP was infested when Reagan come and then when Newt came, many of them retired and the rest went to the back of the bus.

A few of the Northeastern pup tent crowd came out in open opposition threatening to flip parties if they did not get their way. It would be a very short trip from the GOP to the DNC for these backstabbers.

The GOP was a permanent minority wing of the DNC back then and perfectly happy about it. Newt created the popular contract with America and elected conservatives across the country.

It took Rinos quite a while to take over the party and reduce it to a permanent minority blended with the DNC but they did and here we are again. Angry white guys are on the war path again and hunting for corrupt elitist scalp.

The scariest piece of news is that the young Florida Attorney General, who is leading the Obamacare fight before the Supreme Court, was on FOX, saying that she support Romneycare, a form of Obamacare which would be passed at the state level, just like Romney.

They are concerned because their own internal polling has shown what's only been referenced tangentially here on FR: that Newt has extremely high name recognition and very high negatives in the general public. The LSM has done an excellent job of smearing him over the years, so that the general public's perception of him is not favorable.

Hate to say it, but facts are facts.

The RNC is looking to go with Romney because he's "marketable" to the general public. He's flip-flopped enough that they can craft dual messages that appeal to the widest possible base of voters. Romney is the velvet glove; Newt is an iron fist. The Old Guard, always so concerned about the squishy middle, will risk pissing off conservatives because their thought process continues to be "where else will they go?"

What the Old Guard fails to understand, cycle after cycle, is that when Conservative stay home - they lose. "They" didn't win in 2010, Conservatives won. But from their insulated perspective, it was a GOP victory - not a TEA Party victory.

They may run Romney, but they will lose their base. If they run Gingrich, they risk losing the middle. They've already shown that they are more concerned about losing the middle than defending Conservatism (see Sarah Palin for a recent case study).

That is why they are attacking Newt so hard.

They gave Ronnie and AuH2O a hard time too!

Nelson Rockefeller was Barry's principal antagonist in the 1964 primary campaign. When Rocky lost a committee fight, the Goldwaterites offered a grace note of five minutes' air time at 8pm during the convention itself, primo viewing time, for a five -minute "minority report" to summarize the East Coast Republicans' objections to whatever the Goldwater backers had done on the committee.

Rocky used that five minutes to call Goldwater's delegates "fascists" and compared them to, quote, "Nazis". Not that he ever fought any real Nazis in the Huertgen Forest like my uncle did, or dropped bombs on them like my old man. But he said that stuff about Republican delegates, right there in the Cow Palace with half of America watching.

A few years later he repeated the performance by flashing conservative convention delegates the bird -- "Cicero's unseemly gesture", in Victorian euphemism, immortalized by a newsie's camera. Class act Rocky, when he didn't get his way down to the last jot and tittle.

He died humping a pair of secretaries in a three-way. Family values, Yacht Club style.

These people wore out their welcome with me a long, long time ago.

That's true. It was so powerful and vile, that when Brent Bozell, in his own recounting of it, told the objects of the then-coming press "campaign of personal destruction" against leading congressional conservatives, the congressmen just couldn't wrap their minds around it and didn't really believe him.

As for the job they did on Newt (which Romney's still using against him, and which Bob Dole blamed for the bracketing the Dems did to sink the Dole ticket), a couple of CBS lackeys were still gloating about Gingrich's negatives and referring to the old media campaign on Face the Nation today; I caught the rebroadcast a couple of hours ago.
