Tom Brokaw is a pathetic partisan hack who used his place on TV to promote liberal idea and candidates. He should have declared his salary and air time value as campaign contributions.
We must be careful: if Gingrich or Mitt wins the nomination, and they want to use NETWORK reports on how the economy has gotten worse, this may set a precedent.
I don’t know what the “fair use” laws are—I know Rush Limbaugh has mentioned the “rules” he has to follow regarding the sound bites he plays on his show.
I think the 30 second rule is fair play.
My guess is Romney probably assumed it was ok to use the clip because he and Brokaw are ideologically in the same camp.
The only thing that I don’t like about that video, is that it reminds me of how very much I would love to own a bus. It makes me fell as if my Airstream trailer is in the cheap seat section.
The interview was great. ;>)
There was something about the networks being able to pull anything that was theirs and not allowing it in ads.
But if it suits them they'll let it run, for example...
"Benjy Sarlin October 20, 2011:
CNN has confirmed to TPM that it did in fact ask Mitt Romneys campaign to take down a web video attacking Rick Perry that included network footage.
CNN did not consent to the use of its copyrighted material for this ad, and CNN objects to the use of its talent in any campaign ad, a spokesperson said in an e-mailed statement. We respectfully requested that the Romney campaign not use CNN material in their campaign ads and they complied.
The Romney campaign told TPMs Evan McMorris-Santoro that they stand by the content of their ad, a tough attack on Perrys widely panned debate performances, but that they chose to comply with CNNs request. A recent Perry video also used CNN footage and TPM is following up with the network to see if the campaign will also be asked to take down their web ad.
Update: CNN policy is apparently to let debate footage be used liberally Romneys video made use of their commentators, ie. its talent.
The point, surely, is that the contemporaneous reporting of Newt's difficulties is not the final word on them. A subsequent report by the IRS cleared Gingrich of the charges.Anyone citing the noise of wire service journalism when subsequent information contradicts it is even worse of a charlatan than the original reporter reporter himself.
And that, FRiends, is saying something.
Nothing would throw the Rat zombies into more turmoil than being forced to witness that one of the their gospel media sources is a fraud. On top of that, for a liberal media source to be cut from the herd of MSM would be a death knell, as the herd would no longer want the association.
I wish someone would review the coverage Mr. Brokaw gave of the U.S. economy leading up to the 1992 election - Bush 43 versus Clinton. Oh what a farce is he.
Brokaw lied and he isn’t comfortable having people watch him lie. Mitt evidently has no such compunctions.
NBC has journalistic credibility? Who knew?
people watch him lie. Mitt evidently has no such compunctions.
