I would have agreed with all of that until this election cycle when the Bush’s decided to be part of the cabal that forces the liberal Romney onto the conservative GOP base. Now, and with this picture, I have no friggin’ idea what’s going on.
While the USSR finally fell during Bush’s term, it was Reagan’s policies, which to Bush’s credit he continued, that caused it. Before Reagan, no one, not even Bush, was talking about the crazy idea of actually taking the fight right to the Soviets. Everyone in both parties was in love with the detente, mutually-assured destruction garbag.

I am TOTALLY with you. Let’s give Bush Sr. a break - sure he wasn’t Reagan, but he fought for and loved this country, and was not terrible, by any means. He’s also a great guy, and very, very, funny.
Yes, HW was a hero in WWII, just as all the soldiers who fought were. Did he (or his father) do anything to stop or speak out against selling Poland out to Stalin?
What did HW do to free Eastern Europe? Did he sit in jail with the workers of Solidarnosc? was he working with the Kaczynski brothers to write the agreements that the communists had to sign? Was he in Hungary with the people who stood up to the evil empire? Don’t try to give the elite credit for the work done by the ordinary.
Ronald Reagan and Pope Jan Pavel II did a lot more than HW to inspire the Poles to resist and to trust in G-D, not the United States, to protect us all from the USSR. Bush had nothing to do with it.

Sadly, it’s become cute and cool around here to trash the Bushes. Obama doesn’t even have to do it, we do it for him.
Both Bush presidents made some mistakes but they were both staunch patriots who loved their country and tried to do right by it.
