What is the record of military service by our esteemed Secretary of the Navy?

Military service
Service/branch United States Navy
Years of service 1970–1972
Rank Lieutenant (junior grade)
Unit USS Little Rock (CG-4)

.

In 1970 if you wanted to go into the Navy, you had to sign up for a minumum of 4 years, if not 6 years. How did he manage to get released after 2 years during the height of the Vietnam War.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Lieutenant (junior grade) (LTJG) is a junior commissioned officer rank in the United States Navy. Did he go to Anapolis? The two year enlistment is suspicious, indeed.

Post-war reduction in force, probably.

USN Reserve is a six year stint, with two years active duty besides any training duty required. OCS runs them through a shortened Middie school during their initial two to four year Reserve jaunt while in school getting a degree, then into the Fleet for two years and the balance as Inactive Reserve subject to Recall.

How disgusting that Sec Mabus would name a Navy ship after Cesar Chavez, who described his two short years in the military like this:

“Later, Chávez described his experience in the military as “the two worst years of my life.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%C3%A9sar_Ch%C3%A1vez

Now Mabus wants to name a ship after a corrupt Ex Marine who turned his back on his Brothers. John Murtha never understood the meaning of Semper Fi! He called our Haditha Marines “cold blooded killers” before an investigation was ever complete. The pain and suffering he caused these brave Marines and their families was devastating! John Murtha is dead and we are left with his traitorous name and his betrayal of his Brothers. His name belongs in the Hall of Traitors, not on a Navy ship carrying noble men!
