This is great work, but is writing to the man behind the idea an effective way to try to get him to stop? Seems to me it might give him additional resolve to ram it through.
I have no suggestions who else to write to, but any guy who would suggest this idea is a party hack and I worry that he'll just toss these letters in the garbage.
We certainly can't write to his boss for help either.

The hope is that this effort will run through the online community and take on a life of it’s own. We’ll see.
You make a good point about Mabus. It is highly unlikely that such a person can be shamed into changing his mind. However, if this effort is seen as the tip of the spear, and large respected organizations such as the American Legion, VFW, etc., get on board; then political pressure could be brought to bear through elected officials.
There’s much work to do.

You certainly made a good point. It is my hope that phone calls made along with letters to everyone we can think of from government officials to media would help get this stopped. They can name the ship after a war hero instead! Sending a Freeper ping to Mississippi patriots!
