A SENIOR media adviser within the Prime Minister's staff has been forced to resign after tipping off protesters about Tony Abbott's whereabouts yesterday.
Tony Hodges, who has been on Julia Gillards staff since July 2009, admitted making a phone call alerting a person to the Opposition Leader's location.
That person then contacted people at the tent embassy, sparking ugly scenes that have gone around the world.
The revelation is a major embarrassment for the PM, who this morning denied any knowledge her staff were involved.
In a statement tonight, a spokesperson for Ms Gillard said: "...a member of the Prime Ministers media unit did call another individual yesterday and disclosed the presence of the Opposition Leader at the Lobby restaurant. This information was subsequently passed on to a member of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy.

That’s a complete disgrace.
And it put Gillard & Abbot in real danger, could have turned out badly.
The scheming little commie was caught. Where does he end up next? Undoubtedly at some public funded university or sucking down the taxpayers money in some other way.
A tent city set up in 1972? Occupy Wall Street for 40 years? Heck, that even predates Rev. Bacon, er Sharpton.
Gillard herself wouldn't have known, but I suspect that there was more than the one staffer in on this stunt (which has backfired so spectacularly).
