Doubting Daniels (can we blame those who dream about a late entrant to the GOP presidential field?)
American Thinker ^ | 01/26/2012 | Calvin Freiburger

I can't blame anyone for dreaming about a late entrant to the Republican presidential field -- Mitt Romney is tone deaf, Newt Gingrich is insufferable, Rick Santorum seems unable to catch fire, and Ron Paul, well, is Ron Paul. The likelihood of beating Barack Obama with any of these guys is uncertain at best, and the desire for someone more conservative, competent, and capable is hard to deny.

A sizeable slice of the conservative commentariat seems to think drafting Mitch Daniels is the answer. The Weekly Standard's Bill Kristol declares the Indiana Governor the winner of a debate he didn't attend, the Wall Street Journal's Bret Stephens says we deserve to lose the election partly because this member of "the GOP A-Team" hasn't answered the call, National Review's Mona Charen sighs that "our best leaders" like Daniels are sitting it out, and Charles Krauthammer applauds Daniels for one of the best State of the Union responses he's ever heard.

To all of which, I can only shake my head and ask: are you insane?

I’m not in favor of “drafting” someone to run for President. If they don’t have the desire and initiative to run on their own, it just doesn’t seem wise to try to “force” them to do it.

The fact that our choices are either Romney or Newt is just pathetic. This is just the GOP shooting itself in the foot yet again.

Yes, because it is childish and moronic to fantasise about some mythical "perfect" candidate. ANY candidate is going to be subject to the same hysteric, hyperbolic attack media as the current set of candidates.

The only reason these non candidates look attractive is because they are NOT in the race. The minute they were subjected to the same hyper intense media scrutiny and attack politics, they would look every bit as flawed.

Bingo. These are our candidates, people who are unhappy with these choices need to get over it. Many can't accept that their favorite politician didn't want to run and are still holding on to delusions of a late entry or brokered convention, but it isn't going to happen.

No this is just the usual Conservative whiner's choir hysterically bitching rather then getting off their ass and getting in the fight. Easier for them to just sit around and bitch endlessly instead of getting into the fight. They do this on every issue. They are the useless dead weight of the Conservative movement.

He isn’t going to enter the race. It is too late for that.

Wow, Mitch was the MSM pick back in April.

Then came the WSJ article about how his wife had a melt down and left him with four daughters for another man.

Mitch spun it into a love story of life because she came back.

What does his wife’s meltdown have to do with his governing ability?

Don’t you know that anytime a woman leaves a man, for whatever reason, it’s the man’s fault?

She must have had a reason to be unfaithful to him. /s

Folks, we are being rolled here. There are David Bonoir types all over the place in a scorched-earth republican putsch to make sure Romeny is the nominee. It’s disgusting.

A Brokered GOP Convention A Possibility?

The Republican presidential contest has been noted for its intense acrimony. But the hard fighting will produce a candidate ready to take on Barack Obama.

Right! A reluctant candidate (whose wife is vehemently opposed in Daniels' case) is not a recipe for success!

I really think Perry was talked into running when he wasn't psychologically prepared and that was why he didn't do better.

Here's another story you never heard ~ Mr. Cheney rode into a Southern Indiana town during the Civil War ~ possibly with Morgan's Raiders ~ and then he rode out with Dick Cheney's Great Great Grandmother leaving her 12 children behind, her husband off at war burning Souvrn' cities, participating in the Battle of Franklin Farm, and a variety of other things.

Her children were adopted out to various families. It took the decendants nearly 50 years to piece the story together.

You never heard about Cheney's family ~ so there it is.
