Newt is right. "Self-deportation" by someone who has lived here for many years, has family here, and no ties to the former land of his birth, will not "self-deport." That is the kind of static thinking that liberals use when they believe all they have to do to raise more money is raise taxes on rich people--as if rich people are wooden cigar-store Indians who will just stand there and let the gubmint pick their pockets.

They likewise apparently believe someone who has made a life here will just tear it all up and disappear to go to a land they don't even know, just because some flunkie says they have to. Gimme a break.

Now, if you are talking about some footloose kid who just crossed the border some months or a couple years ago, and who has no ties here, and can't find work all of a sudden, then sure, self-deportation will occur, as it has the last couple years. He will pack up and go home to his family until things here improve. But that's not the population we are discussing.

we do have the talent, they just don’t have the stomach for it and I don’t blame them. The last thing I would want my family to go through is a media colonoscopy and the oppo research interviewing everyone I ever lived with to find out how I failed to tip the paper boy in 1988 and I cheated on a girlfriend in 1990 versus where I stand on issues that people care about.
There is a reason why a Mormon is the favorite of some of the party elites. There is no personal background garbage that will pop-up like DWIs..
The good thing about Newt, Sarah and Hillary for the democrats is that everything that can be said, has been said and they just don’t give a damn.. and the public is tired of it.

My best guess is Newt is talking to Republican Hispanic voters in the next battle Florida with this approach.

Makes sense. But in the general election, it would be tougher to convince "less conservative" Hispanics to vote for the GOP. And even more or less "conservative" Hispanics can be tricky. I'll bet Newt and Mitt have Rubio on speed dial.
