Allen West, in discussing what the Republican Party needs to do to get black voters into the Republican party, was asked which presidential candidate has the conservative principles to help turn the tide of high unemployment in the black community, and he was quick to point out that despite those on the left accusing Newt of race-baiting, he believes that Newt is the one who is diagnosing the problem well and is trying to open a dialogue with the black community by offering to speak before the NAACP.

Well I am not sure about that. I suspect Newt will be seen by a large number of the masses as a fat, rich old white corporate shill, and many in the inner ciies, black or white, will see Newt as a a representative of the rich white a status quo.
There;s a reason we have that clique; if you want a job well done, do it yourself. West will need to be able explain his support for Conservative American values before Black and working class Americans forever. They will want to know why he voluntarily chose to serve in the US and genuinely supports the US Army; they want to know why he, as a Black American, supports a nation that enslaved and lynched and segregated his people for 300 years and traps them in poverty and incarcerates them at such high rates and wont apologize and give reparations. They dont understand and he has to make them understand. Which I have faith he can do.
Enough facts already. Isn’t it time we start hearing about Alan West’s sex life or at least that he had a lustful thought.
I like Alan West!!! He would make a good VP. Newt is the man!!!
Gingrich/West. Unbeatable!
Must quibble with an anecdote.
At a former workplace, the TV happened to be on when Herman Cain made an interview appearance. About a half dozen blacks were in the break room, and listened to Cain; they liked what they heard at first.
When it was revealed that Cain was not a Democrat, two of the blacks spat on the screen.
Blacks hate Uncle Toms.
I love West and wish he would run HOWEVER, I am damned sick and tired of every minority group acting like they need some special treatment or attention.
Either get with the program of being a NON-Hyphenated American or go back to where you ancestors came from and see how wonderful your culture is.
Black this or Latino that or Hispanic blah blah blah, how about growing up and realizing main stream America is a hell of a lot better than all your inferior subcultures. We are better because we incorporate the best attributes of numerous cultures and tend to eliminate the bad attributes.
Sounds good to me.

You should have stopped with the first paragraph. That pretty accurately expresses how a lot of African-Americans will view Newt, and not just them, either.
In paragraph 2, you really let your fantasy run away with you. I don't know the percentages, but only a few people actually think that way. A larger group pretends that they do, and most Blacks don't.
And why "working class"? Do you think when a decorated officer speaks before Black and/or working class Americans getting blamed for slavery and segregation is the common response? There may be a crank or two in the audience, but do you really think most listeners feel that way?
About West's comment: Newt is articulating a conservative message right now that the other candidates aren't. That's something he's right about. That's why Newt won the last primary.
Whether, of all the possible spokesmen for that message Newt's the one most likely to win over African-Americans is hard to believe. It's not because they "hate America," it's because to a lot of people, Black or White, Newt comes across as the old, rich, White guy who wants to keep kids off his lawn, more like McCain or Dole than different. Maybe it's not true or fair, but that's the perception in much of the country.
Although I can understand might be considering other VP’s, West sure would bring a lot to the ticket:
military vote
black vote
conservative/Tea party vote
youth vote
Florida vote
Newt supporter vote
People with brains vote
People sick of muslims vote
“I am damned sick and tired of every minority group acting like they need some special treatment or attention”
...and Newts answer to that group was vote for Obama.
Right. And he might say some things that sound like he’s shooting from the hip, but it won’t be anything he hasn’t analyzed to the nth degree.
Hopefully this is the type of message West imparts to them.
I for one, will not hold my breath waiting for them to understand or accept it. For many of them, it’s just ingrained in them from birth to live in a manner that expects the government to meet their needs.
The way our leaders need to go is stimulate the economy first, so there are jobs for them to go to — THEN try to convince them. Although it’s really been tried before and the message lost still on so many.
Not this election. If he picks a black running mate, whomever he picks will automatically be branded an Oreo Cookie. It’s a losing battle. Won’t even convince white liberals that he isn’t a racist. Nothing to see here. Move on.
The Pro-Newt Sunami is moving faster than the establishment could ever hope to keep up with. I love it. Those slow moving piranhas at National Review, Weekly Standard, et al. have no idea what just hit them. Suddenly, their chipping away and nibbling at the edges has become completely ineffective.
They can no longer post things like “Against Gingrich” in big red letters for 24 hours and have one little piranha pundit after another nibble away to sway voter opinion. The so-called “conservative” pundits are becoming as unconvincing to conservative voters and they are to liberal voters. Their monopoly on political thought is being broken up.
People with that attitude are unfit for self-government.
Romney believes West’s endorsement is positively delightsome.
