"I talked to a top Romney adviser tonight who said, 'Look, if Mitt Romney cannot win in Florida then we're going to have to try to reinvent the smoke-filled room which has been democratized by all these primaries. And we're going to have try to come with someone as an alternative to Newt Gingrich who could be Jeb Bush, Mitch Daniels, someone.'

Why aren’t we looking at Jeb Bush?

You are aware you are on a CONSERVATIVE site...right? ANOTHER Bush?

Thank G-D my fellow freepers have awakened to the disaster the Bush presidency was (yes...he did some good things) for conservatives. There were days on here back in 2005 when I criticized GWB for not being a conservative and almost got lynched (if you have patience...check my posting history for proof) for being a troll.

The sleeping conservative nation is awake from their drunken stupor. They realize that we can ill afford RINO's spending us into oblivion under the GUISE of compassionate conservatism (READ: BIG GOVERNMENT NANNY STATE).

And you want to do it AGAIN?

I am still worried that Ron Paul is going to go third party.. The moderators at the debates bring it up to him at every debate, trying to keep it in his mind to do so.. He says he wont but he says it in a way that sounds like he isnt convinced himself that he wont... UGG

I think Daniels is giving the SOTU response so the RNC can reintroduce him as a alternative to a failed Romney.

Yes.

I worry about that too.

You have already gone down as an idiot.

George W. Bush

Spent more of the hard earned money of the American people than any President since Lyndon Johnson!

REFUSED to halt illegal immigration into the U.S.A.--IN VIOLATION of his oath of office to uphold U.S. law!

INCREASED entitlements and their staggering weight on the American people!

And WORST OF ALL: set us up for what we have now.

It's idiots LIKE YOU who are the enablers of the Scoundrels who are destroying the United States.

Take a few thousand crates of ginko baloba. Maybe it'll increase you IQ.

Oh, no! What will Ann Coulter do if, according to her, the “only conservative in the race” suddenly is replaced?

Damn you beat me too it! How correct you are my friend. Perhaps Bwarney will commit.

He was a good man and did many wonderful things for the country.

GWB will never be forgiven for the Patriot Act, Medicare Part D, No Child Left Behind, the 2008 bank bailouts, spending a trillion dollars to replace Saddam Hussein with another Saddam Hussein, or allowing Alan Greenspan to blow up an immense Housing Bubble to replace the imploding Internet Bubble and save his 2004 reelection campaign. All of these things laid the groundwork for Obama to not only win office, but take us onward toward a fascist state at warp speed.

On the other hand, when he said the Pledge of Allegiance he seemed to actually mean it - which is far more than can be said for the current incumbent. I'll give him credit for that.

Full Andrea Mitchell quote:

ANDREA MITCHELL: "I talked to a top Romney adviser tonight who said, 'Look, if Mitt Romney can not win here in Florida then we're going to have to try to reinvent the smoke-filled room which has been democratized by all these primaries. And we're going to have try to come with someone as an alternative to Newt Gingrich who could be Jeb Bush, Mitch Daniels, someone.' Because there is such a desperation by the so-called party elites, but that's exactly what Gingrich is playing against."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Andrea Mitchell was breathless to report this, and I was shocked to hear it. Is she talking about a replacement for Romney OR the introduction of an additional RINO to split the primary votes against Newt? leading to a brokered convention?
Why would a "top Romney adviser" be telling AM this now?
If you were Romney, wouldn't you fire the "top Romney adviser" immediately?
Would Romney be willing to get out of the race so quickly if he loses FLA?
Wouldn't such a tactic backfire on the RINO elites? Wonder if that's why Coulter was in such a state of panic on O'Reilly's program.
That was a sensible post, but I’m sick of people who make a habit of knocking Bush on this forum.
His failures stemmed more from this loyalty and optimism that from the traitorous feelings Obama has.
I’m more on the Ron Paul side on nation building but Bush actually believed that muslims were good people who just needed to be shown democracy. He was wrong and we know better now.
I didn’t agree either on the things you mentioned but to entirely negate the good things he did is wrong also.
And why must we dwell on it here? It just plays into the hands of Obama.
“I don’t like Mitch as a candidate but your are doing the devil’s work (or the dems - it’s much the same) by dragging up scandals or supposed scandals on Republicans.”
I’m just SICK of candidates that come out of the blue and are supposed to God’s gift to the Republican Party.
Daniels drug arrest is no secret, anyone can look it up on Google.
Look on the bright side. That arrest would have Daniels totally sweep the Ron Paul contingent.
You’re right!!! A man ahead of his time. He figures that if he can document that he pal’d around with drug dealers (to say the least), he’ll keep the Paul voters on board.
Brilliant move by him.
“Daniels lacks charisma, but he is usually pretty good at speaking. Local news this morning reporting he is not going to run.”
I don’t see how Daniels can run, given the details of his drug arrest. What’s ASTOUNDING to me is that The Establishment would STILL rather see Daniels on the ticket than Newt. They seem to have a death wish.
In my opinion Romney is finished if he loses Florida. He’ll probably win Michigan and Nevada but where else? Paper tiger frontrunner to dead in water in a manner of days?
If there is a new Anti-Gingrich candidate I hope it’s not Jeb or Daniels. Blech.
I’ll tell you why they like Daniels. He managed to beat a democrat for his first term. In 2008, he, in spite of the state going Obama, it was close,(lots of cheating in Lake County to give Obozo a win, my personal opinion) Daniels managed to win by a pretty good margin. The elites see him as being able to get both parties votes. That is his allure to the GOP.
For me, he has done better than most governors and has managed to do some very conservative things like defunding Planned Parenthood and pushing Right To Work. They are very close to passing RTW. It would pass if they could get the Dems in the Indiana House to show up for a vote.
To me? Daniels is somewhat a nanny stater and he is not too good on illegal immigration.
His drug arrest over 25 years ago doesn’t mean a whole lot anymore because that was then, this is now. The bigger scandal for Daniels is the one that kept him out of the race. That has to do with his wife running off and leaving him with their daughters. They later reconciled, but I don’t think Daniels wanted to ruin his life as it is now.
Daniels could not win now because he isn’t well known enough to come in late. The only way that would work is to get someone who is well known.
Not a lot. Probably Illinois (I can’t imagine the GOP wing of The Combine being neutral on this). I think that Romney will sweep Utah and most of New England and maybe New Jersey (if he’s still in the race by then).
Back when Cain was the frontrunner there was a poll showing him leading Romney here in IL, for what it’s worth. Poor Mark Kirk is in no shape to help Romney campaign anymore.
Romney is just so disliked and disconnected from the Republican base.
