The story is shocking enough, even without bringing race into it: on the way to school in Ocala, FA, a thirteen-year-old girl was beaten unconscious and reportedly went into a seizure after being attacked on the school bus by a group of fellow students.
The girl reportedly was riding the bus for the first time. Someone threw a shoe at her, and she threw it back, hitting a student. That's when the beating began. At least seven students surrounded the girl, punched her, held her head to the floor by her hair, and kicked her. The bus driver pulled the bus over, stopped the beating, and then continued driving. But the beating started again, so the driver diverted to a nearby school and called officials, and the girl was taken to the hospital.
Aside from the brutality, there was another troubling fact about this crime -- a fact that predictably did not make it into the news: the attackers were black, and the victim was white. Yet, for the first few days after the attack, not a single news outlet reported on the race of the victim. Since the attack occurred, only one news item has even indirectly mentioned the victim's race. This can't be because the information was hard to come by. The Ocala Sheriff's Office responded to my inquiry about the victim's race within hours.
Many well-meaning people will ask why race matters. Violence is violence, and people are people, so why bring race into it? I sympathize with that sentiment. The trouble is that, if the races were reversed, this would be a larger story. It would be a larger story because we have a system of racial double standards -- some written, some unwritten -- that serve to conceal the reality of crimes like this...

Perfectly, depressingly said.
So you used “then” four times—three of them incorrectly—in a single post, and your reaction to someone who points this out to you in a humorous way is to call him or her a fifth-grader? Maybe you should learn how to write “then” and “than” instead. Just like an intelligent statement written in Ebonics will fail to get its main point across due to the readers’ distraction caused by its curious grammar and spelling, writing “then” instead of “than” makes the reader think about grammar instead of about what you’re trying to convey.
And pandas are very good at teaching grammar; ever hear of “Eats, shoots and leaves”? : )
I agree with you..I remember LBJ very well..He was corrupt.
A work related crime? (fort hood)
A school related crime
Thank you for pointing that out for me, much better than I explained it :~)
I was about to second that, I wouldn’t of taken offense to that, but he’s getting rather agitated over not much and insulting others. At first I thought he was joking, but now it’s been more than once. Might have to ignore him then, rather than reducing yourself to that level. heh
I bet this is a lie...surely, the white girl attacked these poor unfortunates and insulted their mothers (they probably don’t have known fathers). It was a racial crime...by the white girl.
I expected a little flame back, but not like that... I thought about replying to his further remarks, but you can’t help that don’t want to be helped, and it just insures an online flamewar with more insults bandied about. And, like dcwusmc mentioned, it makes those involved look like jerks (like he/she/they may be), and I am NOT calling you one dcwusmc ;~)
Thank you both for your support!
And I will not be a grammer-nazi anymore ;)
OH.. 1 more thing.. I do NOT work for the DoE, so none of that Union BS.. since I am in Japan ;)
The ‘prolly’ was intentional to lighten up the post... guess it didn’t work :p
I will remember not to use it again though, I know how pesky pet peeves are :)
"Well-meaning"? Ha, the left is supposedly well-meaning? I guess the Black Caucus, NAACP, Hispanic Caucus, LaRaza etc are not 'well-meaning'?
Violence is violence, and people are people, so why bring race into it?
Because race matters. Because non whites bring up race all the time. Because black violence is disproportionate. Because flash mobs are almost exclusively black, because the knock out game is black on white, because 'beat whitey night' is not a carnival attraction at the Iowa State Fair...
Lol.. no more drama from my end :~)
“can’t help that” = “can’t help those that”
>.< may as well correct my own mistakes to :p
Just look at my tagline.
More NAM’s (Non Asian Minorities) behaving badly. What a surprise.
It sounds like something that would happen in prison. Of course, when you think about it, school does resemble prison.
Amen. There are times you have to jump in, no matter the likely outcome.
I would be willing to bet that the original shoe hurler didn’t throw his/her own shoe, but somebody else’s.
“Race has nothing whatsoever to do with this. I just want that to be perfectly clear. Crime statistics show that non-blacks are just as likely to inflict mindless violence on others.”
Please post a reference to those statistics because I strongly suspect you just pulled it out of ...the air.
Unless I miss my guess, just working from context.
