REED: Bain coverage won’t be Romney’s ‘Swift Boat’
The Washington Times ^ | Jan. 22, 2012 | Rick Reed

Posted on 01/23/2012 9:53:40 AM PST by Interesting Times

Our national commentariat is twisted in an impossible yoga pose trying to compare anti-Bain Capital coverage to the famous 2004 “Swift Boat” ad campaign. The two situations are not close to analogous. I have a more-than-passing acquaintance with the Swift Boat ads - I helped produce them.

Our liberal news media continue to fabricate and fantasize about the Swift Boat saga, which proved to be a decisive moment in the 2004 election. In the parlance of the media, the ads run by a group of veterans opposed to John Kerry were a “smear” and were “discredited.” They were neither, and the only institution that smeared and ultimately was discredited was the liberal press.

Nice article defending the Swift Vets by Rick Reed, who worked on their original TV ads.

Swiftboating: telling the truth when the media won’t.

Best definition I've ever heard.

I am NOT bashing Bain, but come on, the below link is how Romney himself explains Bain. So will he Bain other private companies as president?

Hopefully not. Until Obama, it was understood that the authority of an American President did not extend to dictating the affairs of corporations.

Of course, if the Gingrich surge continues, the point may be moot.

I would like to know where Romney stood on the original Swift Vets. Did he support them in 2004? Or, did he support Kerry?

To me, where one stood on the Swift Vets in the summer of 2004 is a pretty good litmus test on whether or not one is a Conservative. Do you support Truth - as was amply demonstrated and testified to by the Swift Vets, Or, do you support a politics of expedience and accomodation as was evidenced by much of the main stream media and the Democrat and Republican Elite.

Regards,

TS

Have no problem with Bain (or making money) it's how Romney handled the subject. He stated repeatedly that he “left” Bain in 1999. Today he is still making more than fifteen million dollars/year from Bain......It all depends on what the meaning of “left” is.......ala Clinton.

Why didn't he initially say I stepped down from CEO of Bain, or although I still make money from Bain, but I no longer am on the board of directors etc.?

Instead he said he “left” implying he was no longer connected to Bain.

Why the manipulation?

BTW are you aware that the Huntsman fortune is intertwined with Bain and that Jon Huntsman and he are related?....Why not be transparent? Was Huntsman a "straw candidate" in NH? Why?

Romney is by his own methods bashing his own success by comparing his business practices, to what Obama has done to US. Personally, I think it was his attempt to answer these so called liberal 'occupiers' before the general election. He really cannot complain when he gets called on the carpet about his business practices when he compares and contrasts them as no different than Obama practices.

The auto bailout followed by 'cash for clunkers' is NOT going to win him votes from the base, nor will it elevated him in the eyes of those independents he is courting. I think when he gave this message, he counted votes that had not yet been cast.

That’s an interesting point. I haven’t heard of any comment by Romney on the Swift Vets, either way.

That’s an interesting point. I haven’t heard of any comment by Romney on the Swift Vets, either way.

"Governor Romney, in 2004 a group of American Veteran's known as the Swift Boat Veteran's and POW's for truth assailed Senator John Kerry's claims about his service in Vietnam. Since Senator Kerry was the Senator for your home state, what was your stance on their allegations?"

What do you think?

Follow Up:

"This is a relevant question in this election since support for or against the Swift Vets could be considered a litmus test of conservatism by Republican Primary voters. Additionally, the Swift Vets damaged Kerry's campaign primarily through the use of the internet and alternative media. In light of the Swift Vet's success what is your stance on the new SOPA and SIPA legislative initiatives?"

.

- Governor Romney -

#1 - Why did you vote for the anti-2nd Ammendment anti-gun “Lautenberg bill” in Congress in 1996?

#2 - Why did you vote in Congress for Nancy Pelosi’s pet “Gun-Free Zones” bill in Congress?

#3 - Why did you write a $9000 (plus) bad check written on the House Bank to the IRS?

.

- Whoops

- Sorry Governor Romney!

- I may have somehow made a slight error in my information....

- Golly - I am late for my train -
