What a deceptive chart. MSM at work.
Some background, please. How does one “boycott” “right-to-work”?? Are you talking about legislators?? Union members?? What??
Indiana House. 60-40 Republican. They need 67 present for quorum. Next session @ 1.30PM Eastern. We shall see...if they show up.
I agree. You’ve got to be kidding me. Any statistics high school teacher would give that an “F-”.
Indiana House is trying to pass “right to work” legislation and the Dems are outnumbered so they are “boycotting” or not showing up to work so the legislature can’t do any voting.
"Right To Work" legislation (RTW) is being (somewhat) debated before the Indiana House. As it has been pointed out, the Republicans largely outnumber the Democrats in terms of seats, however Republicans alone cannot make enough for a quorum. So, the Democratic strategy--as in Wisconsin--has been to simply not show up for work; i.e., give the House its quorum.
The bill itself only protects non-union employees from having to pay union dues to have a job. There are only something like 11% of Indiana employees that belong to unions anyway. The legislation is seen by its proponents as being business-friendly in a touch economy, and if enacted, could help increase jobs.
Opponents of the bill see the legislation as a Union-Buster, and will drag wages down for everyone. (This seems like a huge reach to get to this conclusion.)
The Indiana House Democrats have been trying to make this issue a referendum, hoping it will stall the legislation until they can get more organized, or deliver more spin. House Republicans say this is a stall tactic, and that the people "spoke" last election cycle, when they were voted into office.
The Indiana House Democrats performed a similar stunt, and walked out last session, when they didn't like legislation. I think the House rules were changed to allow a fine of up to $1000 per day, if members walk out to avoid a vote.
YES = 49%
NO = 52%
House to reconvene at 12:30 eastern. Will be interesting to see what transpires...
Above post should read 1:30PM Eastern!
Ah. Taking a page from the lesson-book of their Texas brethren, then. I get it. Thanks.
Regardless, I heard word that all Democrats showed up for work today...I guess the threat of fines is working. Stay tuned for results.
They should be fired, not fined. Any person who fails to show up for work doesn’t deserve the job.
