Certainly all of the water in the Dead Sea, (nearby) or the River Jordan for that matter were it miraculously airlifted out by angels and doused on that flaming city Sodom סְדוֹם, , would have cooled it down. What a horrible sight (and smell) that must have been when Almighty God so righteously smoked that little town and the other one for their people who went nuts against nature and despite warnings (I believe other sins were quite prevalent as well, murder, adultery, rampant theivery...). I personally do believe it historically and factually happened and I also think He the God of thousands of years ago is the exact same God of today, who has not had a "reformation" or "opening" or "tolerance/acceptance" in His mind about such things, despite the fact He leaves the door open 24/7 for folks to be reunited and at peace with Him.

..IIRC, the sulfur deposits present in that area have shown that something akin to a nuclear explosion happened—and it wasn’t from Iranians...
