CHARLESTON, S.C. - Coming off a landslide upset primary victory in South Carolina Saturday night, Newt Gingrich on Sunday attributed the win in part to his "authenticity" as a candidate - something he suggests his rival Mitt Romney lacks.
Speaking to CBS News' Bob Schieffer on "Face the Nation," Gingrich said it was the people of South Carolina, not himself, who "pulled it off" last night in the Palmetto State: "They wanted somebody who was tough enough and bold enough to take on Obama," he said. "In addition, I think South Carolinians were the first state to really understand how liberal Governor Romney's record was as governor of Massachusetts.
After leading Gingrich in the South Carolina polls by more than 20 points just over a week ago, Romney lost to the former House Speaker by 13 points, following Gingrich 41 percent to 28 percent.

As one of the Fox commentators said last night, Romney sure can’t articulate any kind of CONSERVATIVE message. He just mambles and spews soundbites and talking points.
Newt may one day be referred to as “The Second Great Communicator”.
leading Gingrich....by more than 20 points....Romney lost by 13 points

That’s a 33 point turn-around. As they would say in South Carolina: DAY-YAM
Mitt’s “Authentic” belief / message it that (1) it is His Turn; and (2) that the peasantry is lucky to have him and they damned well better straighten up and fly right.
Mitt, and Rove, can go pound sand . . . .
Fire in the belly! Wonderful, glorious fire in the belly!
No more Mittboating. Here comes the Newtron Bomb!
Funny, Newt looks a lot better in this interview than he did in pics on MSNBC this morning. Man, are they running some UGLY Newt photos.
Newt does come off as more authentic in his speeches and debates.
He is comfortable and powerful on the stage. He is able to think on his feet and sound persuasive. He knows how to bet a strong, supporting reaction from the audience.
As a college professor, he knows how to adjust his message to liberals, so he doesn’t sound crazy like other conservatives sometimes do.
He comes out and says that Sharia law is a threat, that Obama is an Alinski radical, that the news media unfairly defends Obama. No other candidate says stuff like this.
And, Newt has a proven record of reducing the size of government, building a winning conservative coalition in Congress and balancing budgets four times. He is really a great candidate.
The USA moved about 20 paces to the Political Right yesterday when South Carolina loudly said that Milquetoast Romney was not acceptable.
I sense an uplifting feeling among conservatives and independents today as there is new probability that a more conservative GOP candidate will emerge and will soundly defeat Obama.
The GOP elite establishment are struggling today as they deal with this new reality.
The GOP elite had better be quick learners or they will be replaced by nimble Tea Party Conservatives.
I do not know about other FReepers but my emails to conservative friends went up expotentially today.
Romney has at least 3 taxpayer-funded “Solyndra’s” in his closet from when he was MA Governor:

Ben Smith
Romney’s Energy-Project Past

“...And so while Romney has criticized Solyndra on the campaign trail as a major failure of the Obama administration, his Green Energy Fund invested in several companies that have failed or not lived up to expectations...”
That's because he isn't conservative. He has to fake everything he says and it shows.
I’ve been nearly despondent about the “inevitability” of an Obama-Romney contest, one that would essentially be a Hobson’s Choice.
But I’ve been energized since Gingrich’s victory last night. His victory speech was the most inspiring and engaging political speech I’ve heard in years.
Willard the liberal’s attack plan now will be attempting to paint Newt as an unreliable crook that was KICKED out of the GOP and is despised by REAL conservatives. This will be his attack plan. That’s all Ive heard from all the lamestream media “analysts”. The problem with this strategy is Newt is a hell of a lot smarter than Willard and will turn right around and throw it back in his face. No one on a debate stage gets the best of Newt Gingrich.
The GOP establishment is having a meltdown right now. They can’t believe the people are telling them to stick their liberal candidate straight up their ass.
Romney can’t articulate what he knows nothing about!
He isn’t getting a bounce from SC.
Willard never expected a fight; he expected a coronation. He’s going to be very predictable and it will not work, Willard. Bye, bye.
I like Newt. I always have. Do I agree with everything he has said or done? No. But taken as a whole, flaws and all, I support him for president.
“Gingrich: Romney “Bouncing Around,” No Message”
What? No message? What about the 59-point economic plan that has everybody so excited?
Romney probably even fakes orgasms.
