Thanks for the info, hossiermama. Could make for some interesting dynamics in DC.
According to Alinsky, the organizer especially a paid organizer from outside must first overcome suspicion and establish credibility. Next the organizer must begin the task of agitating: rubbing resentments, fanning hostilities, and searching out controversy. This is necessary to get people to participate. An organizer has to attack apathy and disturb the prevailing patterns of complacent community life where people have simply come to accept a bad situation. Alinsky would say, The first step in community organization is community disorganization.
Through a process combining hope and resentment, the organizer tries to create a mass army that brings in as many recruits as possible from local organizations, churches, services groups, labor unions, corner gangs, and individuals.
Alinsky provides a collection of rules to guide the process. But he emphasizes these rules must be translated into real-life tactics that are fluid and responsive to the situation at hand.
Rule 1: Power is not only what you have, but what an opponent thinks you have. If your organization is small, hide your numbers in the dark and raise a din that will make everyone think you have many more people than you do.
Rule 2: Never go outside the experience of your people. The result is confusion, fear, and retreat.
Rule 3: Whenever possible, go outside the experience of an opponent. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat.
Rule 4: Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.
Rule 5: Ridicule is mans most potent weapon. Its hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.
Rule 6: A good tactic is one your people enjoy. If your people arent having a ball doing it, there is something very wrong with the tactic.
Rule 7: A tactic that drags on for too long becomes a drag. Commitment may become ritualistic as people turn to other issues.
Rule 8: Keep the pressure on. Use different tactics and actions and use all events of the period for your purpose. The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition. It is this that will cause the opposition to react to your advantage.
Rule 9: The threat is more terrifying than the thing itself. When Alinsky leaked word that large numbers of poor people were going to tie up the washrooms of OHare Airport, Chicago city authorities quickly agreed to act on a longstanding commitment to a ghetto organization. They imagined the mayhem as thousands of passengers poured off airplanes to discover every washroom occupied. Then they imagined the international embarrassment and the damage to the citys reputation.
Rule 10: The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. Avoid being trapped by an opponent or an interviewer who says, Okay, what would you do?
Rule 11: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, polarize it. Dont try to attack abstract corporations or bureaucracies. Identify a responsible individual. Ignore attempts to shift or spread the blame.
According to Alinsky, the main job of the organizer is to bait an opponent into reacting. The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength. http://www.vcn.bc.ca/citizens-handbook/rules.html
“...looks like a good site for future reference.”
Not anymore.
Win, lose, or draw. Newt has done a huge favor to the voices of conservatism everywhere.
the previous post was to AB
CHeck out more about Callista, behind every good man...I did earlier and learned a lot that I did not know.
Glad you brought up the Tea Party Pats since there is obviously a huge mission by the left to pretend that they basically don't exist anymore.
I guess they wish they didn't exist anymore since they totally ruined all their "hope and change" in 2010 and are more than likely to do it again.
Candy does not have time to cry, the Briars will melt....
“Wonder what the working relationship would be like if Newt actually got elected Pres.”
I think that the “working relationship” depends on members of Congress acting adults who put their nation above their own self interests.
Those still in Congress who tried to oust Gingrich over 15 years ago are part of the ongoing problem of business as usual in Washignton, D.C. Under a Republican president, they added over $3 trillion to the federal deficit, shunned conservative policy in favor of Beltway influence-peddling, and so damaged the GOP brand that we lost the majority Gingrich had worked years to forge.
I do not care that Newts fabulous colleagues think his reemergence would be a disaster for Republicans.
The elections of 2010 were NOT a merit promotion; the Republicans were the only alternative in town!
Newt Gingrich has had a sea change - let’s see how the entrenched Republicans in Congress handle that fact.
part of a longer piece that suggests that HUnmes late suon was gay and newt threatened to "out" him. Little seems to be proven either way.I will try and look up the thread.
The Tea Party efforts are dead. Just ask any pundit or network commentator.
The problem is nobody thought to verify it.
The Tea Party efforts are alive and well.
Its here,if there is anything to it I have no idea.

No problem my pleasure. The Callista link was big news to me as well.
Brilliant stuff! Great post! Thanks for posting it.Good to always know your enemy. One of the reasons I watch the shows.
Exactly, the dbm wishes they were dead.
The results don’t make any sense.
Iowa was won by Santorum but no delagates are awarded from the cauci, period;
Romney won a majority of delegates in New Hampshire, which has a total of 12 delegates distributed proportionately;
South Carolina, which Newt Gingrich won, has a total of 25 delegates with winner take all.
So the delegates awarded should be:
Santorum = 0
Romney = 7 (NH)
Paul = 3 (NH)
Gingrich = 25 (SC)
Note: candidates no longer in the race received the 2 remaining NH delegates for a total of 12.
Is WSJ playing a biased card here?
I think you have it exactly right. Journalists have become disinformation specialists when they aren’t just ignoramuses.
