According to CNN polling data, South Carolina Independents Voted 31% for Gingrich and 25% for Romney. This is 6-point margin compared to Newt’s 12-point margin of victory over Romney.
Moderates Vote 36% for Gingrich and 31% for Romney. This is a troubling statistic since although FL is a closed primary, there are more “moderates” in FL than in South Carolina.
In short, Newt has a lot of work to do with “independents” and “moderates” that are key demographics for beating Obama
