CHARLESTON, S.C.-- Seven days ago, it looked like Mitt Romney was going to walk away from the South Carolina Republican presidential primary with a 3-0 record: The former Massachusetts governor had a twenty-point lead in Palmetto state polls, and had recently achieved what looked like a historic one-two punch in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Tonight, following Romney's loss to Newt Gingrich in the third-in-the-nation primary, and in light of the news that Rick Santorum received 34 more votes than Romney in Iowa, the candidate's record is 1-2 instead -- and he's headed down to Florida without the sense of inevitability that had accompanied him into South Carolina.
In remarks following news of his second-place finish, Romney congratulated Gingrich explicitly before proceeding to hit him hard, even if he did not mention his rival by name in the attacks.
Romney focused on taking the fight down to Florida and beyond, and alluded to what may now become a long, hard fight for the Republican nomination. South Carolina has predicted the eventual Republican nominee in every primary contest since 1980.

Where does Mitt Romney go from here?
Lots and lots of TV ads because that’s his best chance.
I understood that Rommney came in second in Iowa with a more complete count. Hence, it never would have been 3-0 as per the CBS news headline.
Yep, that’s a loaded question.
Disney Land?
He ought to go hide in a spider hole, do himself less damage.
The debates have been his undoing.
Now that he’s out of contention, he could go back to Mexico and marry a few more wives.
They (the paid media) are now, after all this time, going to talk up Santorum and Paul just to use them to prolong this and then dump them. Count on it....
Two points:
1. Shows you how lazy and ill-informed the agenda-driven media are: “third-in-the-nation primary”...hey dumbass, Iowa is a caucus, not a primary.
2. Where does Romney go now? He should go back home. We don’t want him or any other northern moderate.
I wish he’d just go home.
The point of the first paragraph is that things looked a lot better for Romney a week ago. Back then, he still thought that he’d won in Iowa. And he assumed that he would win in South Carolina.
The past few days have not been kind to him. I have to wonder what effect Free Republic has had on his feeling of unease.
Game Show Host?
As I said on another thread, Im sure theres a Game Show starting up somewhere that needs a host, or maybe J.C. Penney could give him a job modeling golf slacks for their Spring catalog.
Back to Salt Lake City?
Unfortunately, Florida is a bunch of northerners who have moved south and taken their northeastern attitudes with them. I hope there are enough conservative folk in the rural areas of Florida to make up for the cities.
Weakest Link?

Where does Mitt Romney go from here?
Home!
I know, wishful thinking.
Did anyone hear Carl Cameron say that the Romney camp sent Newt an anniversary cake today to symbolize 15 years to the date for his ethics case.
He said it quickly and not again that I heard. This is something that needs to get out. Talk about a slimey thing to do on the eve of Newt’s victory.
Where is his home?
