The winner of the South Carolina primary has gone on to be the Republican presidential nominee for 30 straight years — and that could be bad news for Mitt Romney, who suddenly finds himself in a real battle with Newt Gingrich in Saturday's vote.
Polls suggest support for the former House speaker has surged since his fiery performance in Thursday night's candidates' debate, giving him a slight lead over the former Massachusetts governor and a good chance of grabbing all 25 of the state’s delegates.
The two other candidates — former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum and Texas congressman Ron Paul — appear to have stalled in the polls and are not expected to have much of a showing
On Friday, the Romney camp was downplaying talk of victory, instead emphasizing that their candidate has performed beyond expectations in the conservative state where he finished a distant fourth four years ago. Nevertheless, a loss would come as a blow to Romney, who seemed to have great momentum following his victory in the New Hampshire primary.

The funny thing about it all is the media is pounding their heads against the wall, trying to come up with questions that newt can’t turn it around on them.Trying their damndest to discredit and belittle him, they have only made him stronger!

The most serious issue is the economic state of the union...all the rest, I'm afraid, is chaff in the wheat. Since 1980 there has not been one three-month period in which GDP expanded faster than new debt did, except during the brief [2008] collapse itself. If you understand grade-school math and the law of exponents, you know we are heading towards a cliff. The whole system of government spending and progressive ideals is unsustainable. We need someone smart enough, and brave enough, to cut government in half. Some say even that may not be enough to save us.
Newt is the only one [of the 'three'] who understands the intricacies of Congress and how to reduce its spending; he has already proven he can do it, because he's already done it once.
America need Newt again; we need him badly.

The wild card in the primary is, of course, the Democrat vote. Democrats don’t have a contest so assuredly many of them are swarming the Republican open primaries and have registered as Republicans for the closed ones. It will be no different in this one and the Democrats’ candidate is Willard Romney. He is a twofer. He is less likely than Gingrich or Paul or Santorum to actually beat the kenyan and if he were to win it would be no loss to the Democrats. Do the Democrats who vote in the GOP primaries show up in the polls?
You would think they would learn. It is much better (from the MSM point of view) to give up on the gotcha questions, the hardballs, and just throw Romney-like softballs to Newt. The hardballs are knocked out of the park. The softballs only go for doubles.
And it is the gotcha questions that Fox and CNN put to Newt that has been the driver behind his SC comeback. Thank you CNN and the New Fox News, the newest member of the MSM.
And special thanks to Hugh Hewitt who declared Newt's campaign DOA less than a week ago. And don't forget Charles K when it comes to head pounding.

For a “nutcase” he has been the only one that has been on target with the truth about this country’s financial affairs for many years. I’ve been a Newt fan as soon as Cain exited, but I have a lot of respect for Paul.
I would agree, he is off the chart on some of his other ideas..... and he does kind of look like he could play the leading role in a Mr. McGoo movie. But I still respect him!
Haley looks uncomfortable and Romney’s smiling like the cat that at the canary.
