Newt Gingrich heads into South Carolina election day as the clear front runner in the state: he's now polling at 37% to 28% for Mitt Romney, 16% for Rick Santorum, and 14% for Ron Paul.
Gingrich's lead has actually increased in the wake of his ex-wife's controversial interview with ABC. Although one night poll results should always be interpreted with caution, he led the final night of the field period by a 40-26 margin. One thing that continues to work to his advantage are the debates. 60% of primary voters report having watched the one last night, and Gingrich has a 46-23 lead with those folks.
The other reason his ex-wife's interview isn't causing him much trouble is that there's a lot of skepticism about it. Only 31% of voters say they think her accusations are true while 35% think they are false and 34% are unsure. 51% of voters say that they have 'no concerns' about what came out in the interview.
The skepticism of Republican voters toward the media is helping Gingrich as well. Just 14% of likely voters have a generally favorable opinion of the media, while 77% view it negatively. Gingrich's attacks on the media have clearly played well with the party base.

My apologies you are correct about Newt. I misunderstood you to be talking ALL republicans.
Will get very interesting to see just who has the nerve to go up against NEWT the next time, do we have any volunteers? lol Hooray for the courage of NEWT GINGRICH, finally, finally someone who can fight.
Remember in the debate, he said what he would do over? He said he would not have listened to his advisors to be something he is not. He has gone back to the fighter he is is, who is not afraid to take it to them. Sure glad he did what he wanted.
Its OK, just confused me. I have broad shoulders. We’re on the same team.
OK we need a concensus.
Is NEWT the gladiator or the gladiatee? lol
Remember, when he goes in for the kill, WE get to give the THUMB UP or DOWN, aka the STANDING OVATIONS.
I agree with you. I think at least one more moderator will try to be a “hero” and take Newt out, and will spend considerable time crafting his/her gotcha question. I highly doubt that that person will prevail, however.

WHO's NEXT ???!!!

A letter from a dude I met last summer up north:
Dear Fellow Conservative:
Im deeply concerned about our nations future. I believe that we must nominate and elect a President candidate this year who will stop Americas slide and fight for the values that made our nation great.
I believe that candidate is Newt Gingrich, and I am proudly supporting him for President. I deeply hope you will, too.
Just like my wife Sarah, Newt tells the American people the truth and what he believes, not what he thinks they want to hear. He doesnt flip-flop on core issues to advance his political chances.
Like Sarah, Newt can take hits from his opponents and the media, and keep on fighting. Hes tough as nails, and he is still standing today because of the power of his ideas, not because he had the most money!
And when its time to stand on the national debate stage this fall, you cant tell me any other candidate will be able to expose Barack Obama and persuade the voters of the conservative case as powerfully as Newt will!
As an Independent, its also important to me that Newt knows how to work with Democrats without giving up on our principles. We cant afford to nominate a pre- packaged candidate without core beliefs we need a committed conservative leader who knows how to take on the establishment and create real change!
Newt wrote the Contract with America, balanced the budget four years in a row as Speaker, and reformed welfare. We need his vision and proven leadership, with his record of getting things done, in the White House.
Im with Newt Gingrich and I would be honored if you would stand with me and cast your vote for Newt in the primary
Yours for America,
Todd Palin
That what I think too: Newt the Gladiator.
BTW: that is the best pic of all, that's our NEWT. Love your "NEXT".
It’s ABC’s loss, and pretty obvious why.
My but the suicide watch list is long tonight: Tokyo Rove, Ted Baxter, Coulter, Drudge, Chalkboard, Wiener Nation ...yada ...yada... yada...

"Madness? THIS. IS. GINGRICH!!!!"
You win!!
That’s the best.
Now let’s get a FReeper to add that text to the picture itself, so we can post it.
Love it!
