Virginia's governor has thrown his support behind Mitt Romney.
Gov. Bob McDonnell announced on Friday morning that he's endorsing the former Massachusetts governor.
"As I have said throughout this primary process, we need a governor to serve as our next president, Governor McDonnell said in a release. America needs leadership and that's what governors do: they lead. Governors actually have to find solutions and bring all parties together in order to get results for their citizens they can't just sit back and cast votes."
Although pressed for months to offer an endorsement, McDonnell has steadfastly withheld commitment until now.
But McDonnell has made it plain that he would consider an offer to run for vice-president if the offer was made. Last November, Fairfax County Republican Party chairman Anthony Bedell said, "If Bob McDonnell isn't on everyone's short list, I don't know who is."
McDonnell currently chairs the Republican Governors Association, and is viewed nationally as one of the party's stars.
While some in his party have questioned Romney's conservative track record, McDonnell expressed high praise. "Mitt Romney used his leadership ability in a politically difficult environment to balance the budget every year, cut spending and taxes, and create jobs. He is a results-oriented conservative," McDonnell said. "This is the type of record that conservatives like me are honored to support."

A lot of otherwise sensible people have lapsed seriously in their good judgement when it comes to Romney, Ann Coulter being one example and Governor McDonnell being another.
Piss on Romney
I have often wondered just how much influence these endorsements have on the average voter.
Any statistics posted anywhere?
I’m guessing McDonnell got campaign funds from one of Romney’s PACs in 2009.
It sometimes influences the home states, but rarely outside of their constituancies. I know of no statistics except past election returns.
This could help Romney in Virginia.
McDonnell’s state won’t even have anyone on the ballot just Romney and Paul.
Prominent conservatives needed to start endorsing Santorum like a month ago but they did not.
“Prominent conservatives needed to start endorsing Santorum like a month ago but they did not.”
True. We are in a situation where the two most unelectable candidates are the top contenders. Not a good place to be in.
Governor Romney led Massachusetts to Romneycare ,Homosexual Marriage, and paying for abortions.
Yeah he led allright McDonnell you dumb putz.
Unfortunately I don’t want to be led by a RINO, liberal Rich kid.
Not all Governor’s are worth following, and you appear to be one.
The establishment’s head of the RGA endorses the establishment choice for president? Shocked! /s
Yeah, they’re all wrong, every one of them. All of them sniveling RINOs sucking up to Romney. Not an honest, sensible, patriotic one in the bunch.
I have a suggestion for Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney. If Romney is required to release his tax records, Gingrich should be required to release his medical records. After all, he’s made his age one of his pluses—he’s more seasoned and mature than he was when he was cheating on his wife. So, if he’s so proud of his 68 years, I want to know the condition of his health at 68 years. We are supposed to be electing someone who will have to put in long hours, maybe stay up to handle crises at 4:00 a.m.
How’s his blood pressure? He is obviously considerably overweight. Is he being treated for diabetes? If Paula Dean is being flayed for hiding hers for three years and she’s only a cook, what about the portly Gingrich? What may he be hiding?
His mother died in her early 70s. She was in a nursing home where she suffered with mental illness, including bipolar disorder. How’s Gingrich’s mental health? Bipolar disorder tends to run in families. Is Gingrich at risk?
I think an obviously physically unfit individual of 68 years who claims that, if nominated, he will be following Obama around challenging him to debates should prove he is physically capable of such. The sheeple, including scores on this forum, should demand it.
You make interesting points. I never thought of those things.
I'm voting a blank ballot on primary day.
That vote will probably be my last in a GOP contested vote.
It is past time for a conservative oriented 3rd political party in this country.
The moderates who stand for nothing can have their big tent.
I hadn’t thought of that.
So, maybe Dr. Paul should be required to release his as well. He is much older.
Get lost, McRino. Bring on Cuccinelli.
No, sir. Once again, we'll have to hold our noses and vote without principles.
It’s more likely to damage McDonnell than anythiing else. We’ve already got the evidence that Romney is soft on electoral fraud, and has been involved in it in Virginia.
Most of that's going to be known in your early 20s.
There are exceptions and it's a highly complex disorder.
I doubt Newt has bipolar. On the other hand I'm pretty sure Mitt is a sociopathic personality type of some sort ~
Nobody ever releases medical records during the primary. Newt will release his medical records during the general. It has always been done that way. I think it is unfair to require a candidate to release medical records during a primary when it was never done before. He will release his full medical history probably this Summer.
