The Secret Service says it is looking into a recent op-ed from an Atlanta publisher that floated the idea of green-lighting Israeli Mossad agents to assassinate President Obama in order to improve Israel's security against enemies like Iran.
The publisher and author, Andrew Adler, reportedly has apologized.
But Jewish advocacy groups condemned his comments as "outrageous," and Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie said the agency is "aware" of the incident.
"We're conducting the appropriate investigative steps," he told FoxNews.com.
Ogilvie would not comment on whether Adler has been contacted or whether his column was deemed a potential threat to the president.
In the Jan. 13 column in the Atlanta Jewish Times, Adler floated three scenarios for how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would deal with a nuclear Iran and other threats in the region.
Adler wrote that Israel could order a strike on Hezbollah and Hamas, or a strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.

You mustn’t talk about Democrat Presidents like that. It was OK when dozens of people called publicly for Bush’s assassination.
But, seriously. I remember from the clinton years, that you had to be VERY careful not even to joke about something like that.
The rules were: Don’t joke about bombs in airports, and don’t joke about assassinating the POTUS.
Make a movie about offing him, like some leftards did about killing Bush. That would be OK, right? I mean, it was OK then!
The man is an idiot for publishing such a column. :-(
The flatfeet in the Secret Service apparently never considered that the hit on a president unfriendly to Israel might be a hit on Achmedinijad of Iran?
Oh, yes, Achmedinijad of Iran is not as unfriendly to Isreal and its national security interests as other presidents such as...
...Nicholas Sarcozy.

Why make the clown President a Martyr? Its something muslims long for anyway. It wouldn’t help Isreal.Isreal has to do what it must do to defend its self.Either with America’s help or without it.
Isreal’s defence needs come first. They have to live amongst those animals.
Looks like someone may have just bought themselves a job as a stringer for the Federal Prison Quarterly Newsletter.

Correct. We do NOT need a national BHO Holiday just like we never needed a MLK Holiday.
Don’r ever greet anyone named Jack at an airport!
If the Mossad even thought about this, they would have done it in 2007 before he even declared.
What the h*ll is wrong with Adler? Doesn’t he know its green lighted AFTER Hillary is VP?
Killing Obama would make him a tin saint—like JFK—I don’t want to see 3 days of mourning—TV specials like “Barry we hardley knew ye” and such clap trap—I would not want him buried at Arlington as some sort of hero. Best would be if the true nature of this fellow becomes known to the people—all the shady tricks and such (and good things—if they exist). I want him as a failed president—so no one will try to put his like in office again—not a mythic hero. Its not a race thing—its a competencies thing —If his leftest actions could have saved the nation and brought back jobs that would have been good—but they did not! He failed and in the words of Donald Trump—he should be fired.
Much ado about nothing. The term used was “a president”. Zero’s name wasn’t used, and the guy didn’t advocate for it. He threw it out there as a what if scenario.
I think this is an example of poor writing skills.
For example, were he to carefully preface this to put it in a larger context, he could have done so in way that would not have been so offensive.
As an example, he could have looked at far more likely scenarios of first, would *Iran* be contemplating the assassination of US leaders. Iran is an enemy of the United States, and if they could have, it would not be beyond the pale to suggest that they would *desire* to kill every US president since Jimmy Carter, inclusive.
But from Iran, he could have moved out to other Muslim nations, any of which could or would, with various levels of secrecy, plan, encourage, or just permit people within their nation to make such an attempt, as long as it offered them some modicum of “plausible deniability”.
It becomes quite a list, really. And a serious one, because of the administration’s willingness to invite Muslims of low character into the federal government, and even the White House itself. Talk about clutching a serpent to one’s bosom.
From there he could finally migrate to Israel, and point out that even among Israelis, Obama is not universally adored, admired, respected, or even considered a friend. Many individual Israelis, or even factions, would look at what Obama has done in a hostile manner.
But does that mean any of them would try to assassinate him, much less their government? This is highly unlikely, because Israel, unlike many Muslim nations, is a rational democracy.
Importantly, they are one which has freedom of speech, in fact, a seeming inability to shut up at times, even when discussing matters of grave international consequences. Were there such a burning hatred of Obama in Israel, the last thing one would expect would be silence on the matter.
And not only that, but they would understand that the best way to get Obama’s attention is to throw their support to his American political opponents. Likely also, they would write endless opinion pieces for publication in America deeply criticizing Obama for his foreign policies that endangered Israel.
The bottom line is that political assassination is in the domain of primitive barbarians, not people cultured enough to make a cutting remark at a cocktail party before closing their chequebook in disdain and leaving early.
