Romney adviser: We could lose South Carolina

Charleston, South Carolina (CNN) - With Newt Gingrich creeping up in the polls and potentially on the cusp of a South Carolina victory, one of Mitt Romney's senior advisers sought to change expectations ahead of Saturdays' pivotal presidential primary.

Though his campaign has competed aggressively in the state and is hungry for a win here, Romney strategist Stuart Stevens said the idea of a loss to Gingrich on Saturday is not far-fetched.

"Do I think we could lose South Carolina? Sure. Of course," Stevens told CNN after Thursday's presidential debate in Charleston.

"The very idea that we are sting where two days before South Carolina, having won New Hampshire, having done very well in Iowa, and the question is 'Could Romney lose South Carolina,' is such an absurd question."

"The idea should be does he have a chance in South Carolina," Stevens claimed.

When it was noted that Romney had a 10-point lead over Gingrich as recently as Tuesday, Stevens shook his head.

"These things were always going to close," he said. "I think it's very competitive. I think it's a four-way race. The whole race is very fluid."

Now that's funny!

It most certainly is. I found it quite amusing.....

But not at all surprising coming from a young Paulite who doesn't know the meaning of words yet.

It could be wishful thinking but my sense is that the GOP base has about had it with both the Blue Bloods and the Lamestream media. The Tea Party, in other words.

They all want Mittens to get the nomination and dear Lord, we’ve had Dole and McCain and for once we’d like to have someone representing US.

I want Newt but I’ll accept Santorum with a smile, I’d have been okay with Perry or Bachman, not nuts about Paul.

But I feel like this four state primary system we got in the Republican party is a farce and I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Mittens is not going to walk away softly with the nomination.

Just a hunch....

i am sorry you did not read my post to you, oh well, none are so blind as those that refuse to see. FYI, I enlisted in the USMC in 1969 so I am no longer a young man nor am I liberal. I voted for Nixon in 72, but foolishly voted Charter in 76, I learned my lesson and have never voted Rat again at the top. I live in Pauls' district here in Texas so occasionally I vote D down ticket for a local or state position when I know for a fact the D is the better person/candidate.

I left the Republican Party in 2007, the GOP pretty much pushed me out with all it's spending, unconstitutional laws and nation building wars, so now I am an independent, independents get to vote in the Texas primary so I will be voting Paul. Since there is no way in hell Obama or any other Rat will ever get my vote i'll either skip the top of the ticket like I did last time, McCain, or vote GOP.

As an independent I can tell you the GOP has a huge spending problem, Santorum was part of the problem and is therefore unacceptable, actions have consequences. Romney is a N.E. Liberal pretending to be a conservative, but he is also a good manager so I could be talked into voting for him in the general just to get rid of Obama. Newt does not have a spending problem so Newt is acceptable. But Newt is a loose cannon ball on a rolling deck in heavy seas. If Newt is the GOP nominee I will vote for him and pray every night that he does not go rouge as he very often does. Frankly Newt scares me he is so unstable, but Obama scares me more.

I do not see any of those I've mentioned even making an attempt at returning this great nation to small, honest constitutional government. Only Paul seems to appreciate just what a mess this country is in and how to turn things around. Paul just wants to do, what everyone knows would work, obey the Constitution, cut spending and stop sending blood an treasure overseas. We need it here, we are broke.

Interesting post, much of which I agree with.

I do not, however, agree that Paul is a conservative - well, he is financially, but not otherwise. His biggest problem is that he will put America at great risk because of his dangerous and insane foreign policy.

He is not a serious candidate, should not be running as a Republican, and hasn't got a snowball's chance in hell to win the nomination, nor to beat Obama.

Oh......and I'm older than you, but as old as you say you are, you should know more about life and politics, as well as conservatism, than you do.

I agree with your comment, "there are none so blind as those who will not see," but that's really about you and not me. You won't see that Paul is a loser, you won't see that there is a real danger in the world that Paul's response to is "who cares?" and you will not see that everyone who doesn't agree with your loony hero is not a 'neocon.'

Lose the leftist epithet against solid conservatives if you don't want people to think you're a liberal.

Otherwise, be ready to defend yourself against the majority of us who actually ARE conservative......across the board.

Paul does seem to have a blind spot when it comes to Islam and the historically aggressive nature of Islam. But as the DoD says, the biggest threat to the USA is debt, and on debt Paul is very good. I will be happy to agree to disagree, we are on the same team and we only want what is best for out country, since you view is most likely to carry the day I hope to hell you are right. lol.

I appreciate that response........very much.

I agree that the debt is a serious problem, but I will agree to disagree as well, because the debt won't make a lick of difference if we're all blown to smithereens by Islamofascists.

Paul dwells in lala land in that area, and as President his number one job, Article II, Section II, is to be Commander in Chief, and provide for our defense.

Paul doesn't have the slightest interest in doing that, and therefore is unqualified for the job, no matter what how conservative he is fiscally.

DRUDGE:

Rick Santorum said Friday he will continue his campaign on into Florida regardless of how he does this weekend in South Carolina’s primary, saying the last 24 hours have been so dramatic they could alter the race in fundamental way.

And he said he wants to see how Thursday’s other events — Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s withdrawal from the race, and new allegations of marital and temperament problems with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich — play out.

Give it up, RINO voter, and go back where you came from

"I appreciate that response........very much.

We are on the same team, I have my view on who and how to make things better, you have your view. We both want the same thing, the Marxists socialists Rats on the other hand want to dramatically transform this nation into a government run utopia (hell hole) where they as in Platos' republic rule over the little people. This little person does not think their utopia will work out well me, so I will be voting for liberty, constitution and equal justices. There is no doubt in my mind that you will be doing the same, you see things differently then I. One of us will get to say I told you so, lol, since my guy is not going to win I hope you get to say it.

Word on the street is that the Romney camp is now deeply depressed.

LOL.

But, didn't Romney say he grew up on the street?

...Romney.His last debate was him stuttering and he looked apprehensive and weak.

The whorehouse media averted their gaze and didn't critique it but the people watching saw it. It was noticeable, how easily he was thrown off his stride.

NO ONE EVER critique's Romney. His last debate was him stuttering and he looked apprehensive and weak.

So in other words, he turned in one of his usual performances.

.

- Chuck Norris endorsed and campaigned for Huck in 2008

- What is your point?

- My dog Tex liked Hunter Mix and Tex liked me too

- Tex was very intelligent and more selective, honest, and loyal than certain alleged Conservatives

- Tex never used Turbo-Tax or wrote a bad $9,000 plus check to the IRS

- Tex never took a dump in his own backyard either - Not even once..... Or twice..... Or three times.....

- Tex would hunt - and kill - but rarely barked -
