Newt Gingirch knows how to unseat Mitt Romney as the Republican frontrunner.
Speaking with reporters in South Carolina Tuesday, Gingrich suggested that fellow Republican candidates Rick Santorum and Rick Perry should drop out of the race and endorse his campaign.
"I am respectful that Rick [Santorum] has every right to run as long as he feels that's what he should do," Gingrich said. "But from the stand point of the conservative movement, consolidating into a Gingrich candidacy would in fact virtually guarantee a victory on Saturday."
While theres no way to say for sure, a Santorum-Perry backed Gingrich could pose a serious threat to Romney. According to a new Rasmussen poll, Gingrich is currently polling at 21 percent among likely GOP voters in South Carolina, a distant second to Romneys 35 percent. But throw in some of Santorums 16 percent and Perrys 5 percent, and the race becomes considerably tighter. And with Romney already being criticized by some as being too moderate a candidate, such a bloc of social conservatives could do serious damage to his campaign.
Of course all this is easier said than done. And with just three days before the South Carolina primary coupled with Santorums strong showings in both Iowa and New Hampshire, getting the former Pennsylvania senator to drop out of the race seems unlikely at best.

LOL!
Oh, Boy....
Newt certainly is “amazing”...
Let’s see what happens Saturday. There will be a blizzard of campaign information released before then.
I call it the ONLY remaining option available to avoid a Romney nomination.
The R herd itself is zilch!
I always thought, perhaps, Perry might measure up as a lessor of evils...we’ll see...
Semper Watching!
And once again NEWT is correct.
it may be too late after SC....hard to say
politicians are hard to fathom...their egos are immeasurable
Well Newt certainly has Chutzpa! I don’t see Santorum dropping out but with very low polling numbers perhaps Perry might but I doubt it....This is going to be interesting.
I read that Romney is preparing a real vicious campaign against Gingrich in the next couple of days, similar to what he did in Iowa (which was the only reason Santorum got a leg up in the first place).
It shows you which one Romney and - by extension - the Dems are afraid of. Santorum is no threat to Romney, and neither is poor Perry, I’m afraid.
Well, this is another ill considered comment by Newt. He certainly isn’t going out of his way to make allies of his opponents or show the least bit of humility. It’s as bad and will be received as poorly as his comment early in the race that he would be the nominee. People like confidence, but they loathe arrogance.
Is it OK if they get back in AFTER SC?
I would rather he use harsher language.
This isn’t a joke anymore.
Either you want Mitt out or you want to feel good about Rick.
Truth hurts, doesn't it. Got better suggestions, then just relax.
Where was Newt's selfless concern for the “conservative movement” when he was making TV ads with Nancy Pelosi to support Al Gore's global warming scams?
Where was Newt's selfless concern for the “conservative movement” when he was working with Al Sharpton to promote leftist programs in our school s and get taxpayer money for black racists?
Where was Newt's selfless concern for the “conservative movement” when he was getting paid to help Fannie Mae squander billions of dollars of taxpayer money?
I see Newt's point that conservatives need to work together. But why does Newt never sacrifice for the “conservative movement” he supposedly cares so much about?
The MSM is trying to make Newt look like a villain on this issue because their darling Romney would be knocked down and maybe out of the race. One of the conservative candidates needs to take one for the team, at least one.
We already have that and eventually I expect that people will react in much the same way.
Gingrich has to beat Santorum in SC badly. Right now, Santorum believes “he” should be the conservative choice.
If Gingrich gives Romney a run for his money in SC...or even beats him, and Santorum is 10% points behind those two...then there is a good possibility that he and Perry will drop out in time for Florida. If they want to beat Romney, that’s what they will have to do.
But, should Gingrich and Santorum be close in South Carolina, and should Perry do fairly well...then all three of them will probably go on to Florida to see if one of them emerges there.
In the mean time, Romney could pick up wins in SC and Florida as a result.
But, I believe after Florida it should be come a three man race with Romney, Paul, and the winner of the conservative threesome...which at this point I believe will probably be Newt.
If they can bring it down to one in that time frame, then even if Romney to that point has one all of the primaries, there will be more than enough time and delegates for a solid, fully supported conservative candidate to go on and win this thing.
If they continue to split the conservative vote past Florida...then the chances become less and less as time goes on.
Santorum has every right to continue running.....don't count him out!
I'm not only tired of elite Republicans like Rove, et al...telling me Romney is the only one to beat Obama....
...I'm also getting very weary and cross that many of you are piling on Senator Santorum to exit the race.
This man has worked hard to get where he is...
...the Iowa caucas count has not even been tallied yet.....any day now....and Rick Santorum may yet win this....
not Romney....not Newt....not Perry

GO NEWT!! Go Santorum! Get out Perry!
